“What is central is that we see this multiple endocrine metabolic dysfunction. That’s really the cornerstone of the condition.”

Dr. Eden Miller is a family medicine physician with a postgraduate fellowship in obesity medicine and diabetology, with her own private practice in Bend, Oregon. In this episode of ACOOG’s Women’s Health Minutes podcast, she explains why PCOS is being reframed as PMOS, and what that shift means for how clinicians diagnose and treat these complicated cases, and the opportunity it presents for better patient engagement.

You can “look like a diagnostic rockstar,” she says!
Dr. Miller also makes the case for why this condition sits squarely in an OBGYN’s wheelhouse, not just endocrinology’s, and why it deserves a collaborative, team-based approach.

CME ON DEMAND: The New Obstetric Codes: Preparing Your Practice for the 2027 Maternity Care Transition

🎟️ Free for ACOOG Members

➡️ Access: bit.ly/MatCodes

Effective January 1, 2027, the AMA replaces the single global code covering antepartum, delivery, and postpartum services with a restructured CPT maternity care codes.

The update deletes 17 codes, adds 12, and revises 6, reorganizing reporting around four distinct phases: antepartum, labor management, delivery, and postpartum.

This CME activity—worth 1 1A AOA; 1 AMA Credit—prepares ACOOG members for the shift.

Led by @jodben and Lisa Satterfield, MS, MPH, you’ll walk through the new code structure, the move to per-encounter evaluation and management (E/M) reporting for antepartum care, daily labor management reporting, and the documentation practices needed to bill accurately and withstand payer scrutiny.

Leave with a clear view of what changes and how to ready workflows before January 2027.

Count the DOs. 🩺

A new JAMA study tracks 20 years of growth at U.S. MD schools, counting 23,303 first-year students. Add the 11,538 first-year osteopathic medical students, and the count of future physicians grows by nearly 50%.
DO first-year enrollment is up 60%+ in 10 years

💚 1 in 3 first-year med students is a future DO

💚1 in 5 OBGYN residency spots went to DO seniors in 2026

💚 DO schools are 6 of the top 10 for placing grads in rural areas

What stands out most to us: DO seniors matching into OBGYN has grown 36% over the past five years.

That growth matters. 35% of U.S. counties have no obstetric care, and DO schools lead in sending grads to rural communities. More DO OBGYNs means more reach where patients need it most.

Four straight years of record DO matches send a clear signal: residency programs want DOs. And OBGYN continues to be a specialty where osteopathic physicians thrive.

1 in 3 future physicians. 1 in 5 future OBGYNs. Count the DOs. 💚

Osteopathic medical students met one-on-one with ACOOG member physicians for mock interviews during the 2026 Advances in Women’s Health Student Track. Across more than 30 stations, students and physicians met for eight minutes at a time to refine answers and gain constructive feedback. Five rounds gave every student in the room at least two interviews with the OBGYNs they’re working to become.

Every DO pledges to serve “the students who will come after me,” and our members showed up for that promise. Thank you to every physician who gave their time to invest in the next generation of osteopathic OBGYNs!

Our thanks go out to all of our interview faculty, including:

ACOOG’s new Mentor Match pairs osteopathic medical students with practicing ACOOG physicians for a 3-month sprint:

✔️ 3 virtual 1:1 sessions

✔️ Students set the schedule and the agenda

✔️ Final session flips the script: students mentor their physicians on today’s med school experience

It’s President @jennifer.jonesco guiding principle in action: “Service to our members, service to our patients, and service to our communities.” Mentoring the next generation of DOs serves all three.

Intentional goals. Meaningful conversations. Invaluable relationships.

The pilot launched at the 2026 Advances in Women’s Health. Want in on the next sprint? Email cme@acoog.org.
