My name is Michael Carini and I am a San Diego based artist with Tourette’s and a traumatic brain injury. I call my process Acrylic Alchemy, and it’s about creating light from your darkness, transmuting pain to purpose🎨

Every piece I share here is an original, painted by hand in my San Diego studio. I also teach private lessons and mentor artists one-on-one 🧠

What do you do with your tools and brushes when they reach the end of their journey 🧑‍🎨

Over a decade ago, I started signing and framing my retired tools because I wanted to show respect and appreciation for the life they gave me on this journey. They hold so much energy from all the stories they’ve told, and sometimes I even recall which painting was their final adventure 🖼️❤️

One of my favorite memories as an art student at @loyolamarymount was my illustration class with @goode_seeker the creator of the iconic characters from @otterpops 🦦

This is one of the most valuable lessons Carm taught me — one I still carry with me today ❤️
