From idea to stage: ACTC’s summer sessions Week 1 and Week 2 are open!

Students will learn 2-4 musical theatre songs and collaborate to create an ORIGINAL production. It all comes to life through character design, script build, and youth improv. Rising 3rd-8th graders are welcome!

There’s a new stage in town — and it’s calling tomorrow’s leaders and storytellers.

Alameda is rich with creative energy and families who value the arts. Yet as a parent, educator, and arts advocate, I’ve seen the gap: kids with growing passion for performance, but limited access to consistent, intentional training.

This is one reason why we launched ACTC — The Alameda County Theatre Conservatory — not as an enrichment drop-in, but as an artistic training performance academy where young artists grow through personalized mentorship, group collaboration and full-scale theatrical productions.

Our first production is Children of Eden — and audition registration is now open for August 8–9. This cast will explore themes of legacy, voice and choice across generations.

Whether your child is just starting out, or perhaps is ready to go deeper — to train with professional directors and join a focused, supportive ensemble — we’d love to see them take the stage with creativity and confidence.

So… What is ACTC?

Our team is so grateful for your interest and support (and we love all of your questions so far!) 
ACTC is a new youth theatre conservatory in Alameda — not a camp, or enrichment class, and not a drop-in.

We train tomorrow’s storytellers with professional direction, and ensemble-based growth.

🎶 Children of Eden, Jr. is bold, heartfelt, and full of choice, legacy, and love — a perfect starting place for students of all backgrounds to grow as artists and humans.

✨ Introducing Our Special Guest Choreographer: Louisa Ou (she/her) ✨

We can’t wait for you all to meet Louisa!! She makes her choreography debut with ACTC, bringing a deep love for both dance and teaching to our production of Once Upon a Mattress (Youth Edition), with a belief that anyone can be a dancer!

Her approach centers on dance as a powerful tool for self-expression and storytelling, empowering young performers to move with confidence and intention on stage.

Louisa’s previous choreography credits include The Lion King Kids, Aladdin Kids, Into the Woods Jr., A Year With Frog and Toad Kids (Saint Mary’s Creative Summer Camps), Into the Woods Jr. (TMC Arts), and original works with Kasama Ballroom Dance Troupe (Bayanihan at UC Santa Cruz).

We are so grateful to have her shaping the movement and energy of this production!!

Meet 🪡✨Zoe Custer!✨🧵

@actcyouthstage is proud to debut Zoe as Costume Designer for Once Upon a Mattress (Youth Edition) this Spring.

With a background in costume construction and wardrobe across theme parks and live performance — including Walt Disney World and California’s Great America — Zoe brings experience spanning large-scale entertainment, opera, and ballet.

Her work includes costume build, maintenance, and quick changes, with a focus on craftsmanship and storytelling through design.

Offstage, Zoe enjoys fiber arts, period dramas, and spending time with her dog, Jamie.

Peep our Stories as we head into show weekend 4/3-4/5 👀 to catch Zoe’s amazing design eye and bold color choices. She is bringing this story to life in all the best ways!

Meet ✨Clarisse Nichole ✨

Clarisse makes her @actcyouthstage debut as Assistant Director & Music Director for Once Upon a Mattress (Youth Edition).

She’s usually seen on stage, with favorite roles including Jenny (It Shoulda Been You), Rona Lisa Peretti (25th…Spelling Bee), Miss Andrews (Mary Poppins), and Grace/ Queen Maureen in Between the Lines.

Offstage, she coaches performers, speakers and professionals with essential tools to own their voice, build confidence, and fully shine in high-stakes moments.

Clarisse is thrilled to support this talented cast and welcomes the ACTC community into her creative village!

We’ve seen her bring serious heart, improv skill and stage wisdom to our stage and we can’t wait for you all to meet her!

What families noticed most after our inaugural fall production wasn’t just the final performances — but it was the process built behind them.

The way the students supported one another.
The care taken in rehearsals.
The attention to stage etiquette, ensemble work, seamless transitions handling large professional props and navigating themselves safely behind-the-scenes.

At ACTC we believe young performers rise to the level of expectation when taught with intention, respect for the craft, and a genuine sense of community.

We’re excited to carry that same standard into our Spring 2026 production of Once Upon a Mattress, Jr.
