Shoutout to Lisa for this beautiful snapshot of a summer in our region, you are the week 9 winner of the ‘Capture the Energy’ photo competition.

Framed by fellow beachgoers, our eye is drawn straight to the little girl as she summons the courage to face the big waves head-on. It’s a moment full of energy, emotion, a little bit of bravery, and a whole lot of Aussie-ness.

October is here, bringing a fresh wave of energy to our region with a lot to see, do and enjoy. You can spark your imagination with creative short films, head to a festival that celebrates our community, and cheer on the UC Capitals as they kick off their season. What’s first on your October list? A scenic view of Lake Burley Griffin during a winter sunrise. The image features calm water reflecting the hues of the morning sky, framed by trees and rocky shore in the foreground. A prominent tower stands on the background hill, and large text reads "What's on around here." The corner includes the ActewAGL logo and the text "Winter sunrise on Lake Burley Griffin by Paul, Canberra. by @actewagl_

A good photo is often less about what you’re looking at and more about the light you found it in.

Photographer and Capture the Energy judge Matt Batten shares three simple things worth trying:

Play with the light.
Use it to draw attention, create atmosphere or reveal something you might otherwise miss.

Time it right.
Early morning and late afternoon give you softer light. Midday can give you bold colour and hard contrast.

Don’t avoid the shadows.
They can add depth, shape and a bit of mystery.

Useful whether you shoot every day or just pull your phone out when something catches your eye.

Got a photo that uses light creatively? Share it before 12 October 2026 at capturetheenergy.com.au by @actewagl_

It’s nearly time to move your clocks forward and check your electricity settings.

Daylight Saving starts tomorrow, 4 October. While most digital devices update automatically, if you're in the ACT, your electricity meter reading times don't. If you're on our evEnergy Saver plan, with its free charging window, or Battery Advantage, with its high peak export window, you'll need to adjust your EV charger or battery settings to align with the new time.

If you're on a time-of-use tariff, it's also a good time to review any appliance timers and usage habits to help avoid peak periods.

If you're in the ACT, remember to change your timers when you change your clocks tomorrow. by @actewagl_
