Nobody does this... but we do!

Free self tapes, free rehearsal space, and free audition coaching alone is why so many actors trust our integrity, and that's outside of the incredible network and community we've built here.

Act First Studios is an acting school built by actors for actors. We understand all of the challenges that come with being an actor today, and our goal is to give you the most accessible, high-quality resources to make your dreams come true.

Ultimately, it's the actors who treat this craft like a journey (not a destination) that typically do very well here, and in their career. Because staying open to an art-form with many facets allows you to find where your unique style shines the brightest.

If you genuinely want to learn, are open to being challenged, this is the place for you. Join us for a free workshop this month. Grab your spot!

This is a major gap I see in traditional acting schools, and it's actually the most critical for your reputation.

Technique is always important, but you also need to know what you're doing and what's expected of you on location or in rehearsal.

At Act First Studios, technique and industry standards are all a part of your education.

"Grounded" is the most requested note in casting. It's also the least explained.

It doesn't mean calm or present or emotionally ready. It means knowing exactly where your character is.

Casting doesn't feel the groundedness in an actor; they see it. And it starts with the specificity of where you are.

The acting industry looks different than it used to, there's no doubt about that.

But different doesn't mean over.

Actors are landing guest star, series regular, and career-defining roles right now in the same climate as everyone else.

The difference between them and everyone else isn't necessarily luck; they just never made someone else's experience their own.

Keep training, submitting & showing up like the next opportunity is already on its way. Because for the right actor, it always is.

Put your body in a space that matches the emotional world of the scene.

The backdrop is neutral by design as it removes variables so that casting can focus on the actor. But neutral also means contextless. And context is what makes a performance feel inhabited rather than performed.

So do the take within the scene first, so that you learn what it feels like for your character to be there. Then do a take with the backdrop so that you can carry that same energy with you in a more neutral space.

One clean backdrop, one in the environment of the scene!

Give the people whose job it is to choose between them something worth choosing between. Your job ends at the performance.

The body needs something physical, or something immediate to ground in the present moment.

It's all about redirecting attention from the analytical brain to the sensing body, which is the only place a truthful reaction can come from.

Grounded is a physical state you create, and the tool to get there is usually right in front of you.
