HEAD OF MUSIC AT KOKO🌟🌟🌟

Been sitting on this for a while. Very happy to let you know that back in June I became the new Head of Music for the iconic @kokocamden BOOM!!

As you know this is an incredible musical venue with a crazy history of iconic artists that have performed here over the years. It’s a real honour to be appointed in the year KOKO celebrates its 125th birthday. My plan is to continue to build on its rich legacy, developing the music programme across both the theatre and The House of KOKO, private members club.

I’ll be remaining true to my core principles of equity and inclusion, my key goal is to tell artists stories, create new work and ensure that KOKO is a leader when it comes to creating cultural moments that move and inspire.

My first 3 months have been a blast! Working collaboratively with the KOKO teams. It’s an exciting space where we’re always looking for ways to be bigger and bolder in our work and ultimately what we can do for artists. My vision is to make sure that artists really understand what they can do at KOKO beyond the traditional live show.

So far in these first few months I’ve booked Erykah Badu for a surprise DJ set, co-curated the music for KOKO’s recent Chanel collaboration and delivered a free-to-access day festival in partnership with Jazz Re:freshed. All of which couldn’t have happened without this amazing team.

I’m incredibly grateful for every stage of my journey so far and cant wait to see what more can be achieved in my new home.

Lets go 🚀

🥳IT’S A MADNESS!!!
I infiltrated another radio station… This time it’s the amazing JAZZ FM 🫶🏽

The lovely guys @jazzfmuk asked me to share with you some of the artists and sounds that are exciting me in the English jazz scene on the brilliant Four Corners show.

So gassed to be sharing this with you all! You can expect heavy baselines, rich grooves and danceable rhythms from heavy weights like SOWETO KINCH exciting emerging talent like XVNGO and killer females like CAMILLA GEORGE & ROMARNA CAMPBELL plus lots more.

As it was broadcast on a Saturday night i thought we’d have a cheeky lil’ jazz rave! 🎷🎉

I hope you love the music, I hope it makes you question what you thought ‘jazz’ sounds like, and I hope it provokes thoughts on identity.
BUT MOSTLY I HOPE YOU LOVE THE MUSIC 👩🏽‍🦱🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿👨🏿‍🦱

Thank you to the team at JAZZ FM @clairerachelumney 🫶🏽

Catch it this Saturday night at 9pm on JAZZ FM on your smart speaker, internet or the app 📻📲

Wow did Amplify Sounds just work with Formula 1!!!

Just allowing myself to have a moment to acknowledge and appreciate how far my baby @amplifysounds & me have come since 20th November 2020.

One day I had an idea to create an hours livestream that showcased original artists from the Midlands and especially championed black & brown music creators 💡Amplify Sounds💡

It’s been relentless hard work and determination, all the highs and all the lows but it’s been amazing. I’ve met some great people who became friends. As well as opening up a world of opportunities for artists and my own career. Amplify Sounds is not even 3 years old yet (2yr8mo) and has now worked with one of the biggest companies in the world 🤯🚀🚀🚀 where to go next…? 🆙🆙🆙

I’m so great full to Amplify Sounds for giving me purpose and changing my life for the better ❤️🙏🏽✨

P.S F1 was crazy cool, I’m a big fan and it’s always been a dream to go! My advice is dont be scared about failure or what other people think, just find a way to get it done!

SEPTEMBER 👩🏽‍🎤
Apparently making History!

The news finally came out about my new job as Head Of Music at KOKO. Reaction to this was truly overwhelming, did not expect so much positive feedback on this. September really was back to school back to work in a big way, plus lots of funnings with some of my favourite people ☺️

Footbaaaaaallllllll, friends, food and music on repeat!
Throw in a lakeside office, a few stunning sunsets and the odd glass of white wine. Perfect recipe for a perfect month.

May 🎢
What a fun month filled with lots of family, friends, music and travel. With the odd power suit thrown in for good measure.

Closed out Cheltenham Jazz Festival for another year. VOTED. Surprised my brother Greg by turning up in his doorstep to surprise him for his Birthday. Went to Brighton for the Great Escape, met my wonderful friends from Tallinn Music Week 🥰 Finally gave up on going back to Birmingham to get my nails done after 2.5years of commitment. Ate good! Traveled to Norway with the EJN board for 3 days of loooooooooong but crucial meetings and then enjoyed the fantastic Nutshell and Natt Jazz artists.

Let’s see what June has in store 👀👀👀
