Exactly 9-years ago today I peaked in both my career and life when words I wrote were published on the side of a beer can.

You see, I was lucky to be on the team that partnered with @ghostfishbrewco on their new flagship IPA. We met, brainstormed, and started working on the Romance Copy for the beer can label. (It's surprisingly complicated to dream up a new climbing-adjacent beer name that doesn't already exist!). That dream was realized as Kick Step IPA, with a portion of proceeds benefitting @mountaineersorg.

I never dreamed I'd have this opportunity again, but then I got an email from Brian Thiel, co-founder and co-owner of Ghostfish. I was honored that he wanted to talk about Ruthless, an old-school style lager he was brewing in tribute to his Grandma Ruth.

We set up a call and by the end of our conversation I'd already drafted the romance copy for the label. We made one change and it went to print. I don't mean to be cheesy, but I think Brian is a kindred spirit, and it's always fun to find people traveling on your same wavelength.

Ghostfish held a launch party a few weeks ago, with tons of Brian's family in attendance from Ohio. In addition to the beer's premier, I helped draft a presentation that was turned into a video by his staff. I'm delighted to share that with you today.

As for the beer, well, it's delicious. Obviously. Reminiscent of Rainier Beer and PBR and Miller High Life (and Spotted Cow, for my Wisconsin peeps). Sadly, it's a limited release and you can only get a pint at their brewery in South Seattle, but get there. It's worth it.

"To the groundbreakers. The game changers. To those who ruthlessly juggle all life throws without apology or regret. Inspired by Grandma Ruth, a true character and avid enjoyer of lager beer, this bone-dry, old-school-style favorite is meant to take you back while pushing you forward. Cheers to you, and the Ruthlessness that lives inside us all."

Cheers to two beers under my belt. Who knows? Maybe we'll have more in the future?!? by @activelifekc

Birthdays are the best holidays. Milestone birthdays even more so. Since the second anniversary of turning the big 4-0 is fast approaching, now seems an appropriate time to share my 4 for 40 birthday celebration plan, and why I recommend it for your next big milestone. Photo by @tlsippel.

Not so sure about the #AppleCup in September, but times have changed, as I found out a few weeks ago when @eabliss took me to my first Husky game since they remodeled the stadium (yes, really!). I thought about bringing my Emotional Support Clarinet with me, but ultimately decided against it. Had a great time despite the 8:10pm kickoff (WHY?!?), and hope to make it back to another game sooner than ten years from now.

Friends, of all the projects I've worked on and all the pieces I've written, this one has by far taken the most work, heart, and grit, and it's the endeavor of which I am most proud. I would be honored if you would read, like, comment, share, and just continue to show up for me in all of the amazing ways. It takes a village, and I am deeply grateful. #linkinbio by @activelifekc

Today this special little guy turned TWO! Hard to believe that two years ago he arrived and made our family complete! Carlo is a spunky, determined, stubborn, smart, chatty, constantly hungry little dude. He worships his older brother, loves his stuffy Tony (the tiger), and loves taking the bus, riding the train, talking about diggers and airplanes, riding bikes, dance parties, knocking over other people's magna-tile creations, and basically anything involving his big brother. He has the comedic timing of a seasoned professional. He's also recently started doing this duck face when he talks back and it makes me so angry and is also ridiculously adorable (see last photo).

Hard to believe that, in the last year, Carlo has learned to talk, run, feed himself, ride a balance bike, and eat with his fancy new molars that he grew all by himself. And he's an angel who potty trained early, so we are DONE with diapers. I am famously not a baby person, and that feels like an extra big milestone we're all happy to clear!

Carlo, Loski, Lowie, Losephine....we love you! Cheers to another year of adventure and obstinance. Happy Birthday! by @activelifekc

Holy WOW! FOUR years ago this little ray of sunshine came kicking and screaming into the world ELEVEN days overdue. The excruciating wait paid off, and today we have a happy, earnest, inquisitive, intelligent, hard-working, active kiddo on our hands. He's a wonderful big brother, budding puzzle aficionado, and tender-hearted stuffed animal lover. He loves to eat, fly on airplanes, talk about flying on airplanes, ride the bus, boss his little brother around, sing, work on his "projects", make to do lists, run outside, have dance parties, and swim in the ocean. He does not love sitting still, waiting for anything, or being told what to do when he isn't in the mood for listening.

Lucca, Yuba, Mr. Bazookerdoodle.... we love you. Thanks for making me a mama. I've still got a lot to learn, but we're figuring it out together. HAPPY HAPPY birthday little buddy! by @activelifekc

I wasn't going to ski today.

I had a huge list of life To Do's hanging over my head, and with childcare lined up for the first time in weeks, I felt like I needed to take advantage of the "break" to get work and life admin done (that's right, my work hiatus is nearly over - I'll share more in the New Year!).

So when my ski wife texted to ask if I wanted to ski Alpental today, I told her I'd have to think about it.

Yeah, yeah, I know you don't believe me, *the girl who once skied 107 months in a row... in a tutu." But with two littles at home and the expense of lift tickets more than doubling in five years (not to mention parking costs), I have more or less given up on skiing. The last time I was on skis was when @tlsippel and I did Baker Off The Couch in July.

Then I thought about it and realized I'd be a MORON to skip a ski day in favor of a To Do list. I can count on one hand the number of times I skied this year.

So I said yes. I'm so glad I did.

Expectations were low, but Alpental put up a fight, giving us lots of snow (#freerefills), intermittent light (#pingpongball), and then, as if from the universe itself, we got #firsttracks when patrollers dropped the rope at International right as we got off the lift. Did you read that? FIRST TRACKS (okay, you busted me, we were skiers #4 and #5 down behind a party of three, but I'm counting it).

Never before in my life have I skied top to bottom at Alpy with fresh pow (nearly) the whole way.

And, since I'm showing off, I also got the Wordle in two today.

So I guess the moral of this story is, #SayYes! Maybe I should also consider a lotto ticket...
