As a finalist for the ACT Nyoloha scholarship programme, I wrote a one-man musical called Petrichor.

Petrichor is a postmodern performance piece that follows the story of Beckham Bennet, a man who has spent his life running from his truth while clinging to a version of his past that exists largely within his own mind. The title refers to the earthy scent that follows rain after a period of dryness, which echoes the piece's themes of memory, renewal, and what lingers after something has been suppressed. Combining music,
performance, and storytelling, Petrichor explores the consequences of having one's identity suppressed or censored during youth, and how years of denial can manifest in increasingly destructive ways. Nyoloha means ‘to rise’, and this piece ultimately considers the possibility of rising beyond what has been imposed upon us, and the difficult process of confronting what
has been buried in order to emerge changed. This ties in well with ACT Nyoloha’s theme for 2026: #NyolohaTranscends

I’m performing it for one night only TONIGHT at the Kearsney College studio theatre. If it goes well, I might even turn it into a full-blown musical! So grateful for this awesome opportunity to learn and experience❤️ @actorgza
