Very proud that Grande Panorama received the National Prize of architecture today! 🏆 Bravo @borhavenarkitekter for leading this beautiful adaptive-reuse project, from care home to housing. A beautiful project that gives a lot back to Drøbak. Thanks for having us on your team for designing the rooftop terrace, for which we proposed private and common areas 🌹🌸🌷 Inhabitants told us today on site that they use it a lot, and it helps them to get to know each other and avoid classic neighborhood conflicts. More community, more commons, please! This project was possible thanks to a great team, and a great client. ‘Borrowed land’ for @faerderbiennalen in @bruddet is finally is open! The temporary installation is under constant change, as it explores concepts of degradation and erosion, while it slowly turns back to the earth. The silhouettes of the rammed earth columns change character by the natural forces and the passage of time. Situated in the majestic scenery of an old stone quarry in Brøtsø, the installation, in close dialogue with it’s surroundings, encourages us to contemplate on the issues caused by extractivism and it’s impact on the natural landscape. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience installation! It will be open for visitors until the 10th August. The project was done in close collaboration with the wonderful @claya_arch and @natrboi and a group of talented and amazing volunteers: @maxirodencal @malk_gdft @alvarelias @trurunningwater @dorn.sophie @tojavik @victorsaharniy @il5e @stinaskavlan Photo 1: Bruno Giliberto @brunogiliberto Photo 2: Rikke Winther @rikkehwin @actstudio.eu Photo 3: Rikke Winther @rikkehwin @actstudio.eu Photo 3: Rikke Winther @rikkehwin @actstudio.eu by @actstudio.eu
✨ Bademaschinen First project where we experimented with reuse and -oh gosh!- it was full of surprises and difficult ♻️. We ended up being “total entreprenor”. We were an amazing team working on the project - which made it possible. Together another world is possible, but we need to unite for it to happen, to have enough power to shake the existing structures. At the moment it is very craving to work with re-use, we have no doubt that it will be easier and easier. Do you have a project in mind that involves reuse and architecture? ᴛᴀʟᴋ: // 𝒲𝒶𝓎𝓈 𝓉𝑜 𝒻𝑜𝓈𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒶𝒸𝓉𝒾𝓋𝑒 𝒽𝑜𝓅𝑒 𝒾𝓃 𝓉𝒾𝓂𝑒𝓈 𝑜𝒻 𝓅𝑜𝓁𝓎𝒸𝓇𝒾𝓈𝒾𝓈 Today we’re invited to speak at ENSA Paris-La Villette during the students’ mobilisation. In times of polycrisis, it’s easy to fall into despair and paralysis, and that is exactly what those in power expect from us. The high-school students who started mobilising in Saint-Denis earlier this year asked for chairs, heating, toilet paper, and cool classrooms. Decent studying conditions. Instead, they were sent heavily armed police. As architect-activists, we’ll share tools for active hope: from street protests and grassroots organising to legal battles and our own projects. As architects, we’re trained to develop new imaginaries through design, and solve complex issues. We can be part of the change we’re waiting for if we organize. We have a duty not to stay silent: solidarity with the students! Thank you Brent Patterson & the students for the invitation. *

Borrowed Land in @paradigme.archi 💥 Paradigme is an anthology of emerging and interdisciplinary voices from Scandinavia, inviting «new voices for nature». We contributed together with @rikkehwin @claya_arch @ask.holmen with a reflection about our project Borrowed Land for @faerderbiennalen , which was a turning point in our careers. Mapping, testing, exploring, gathering a team of experts and volunteers for creating elements with rammed earth, a technique that had almost disappeared in Norway. The book was launched at @oslotriennale and it was inspiring to meet the other contributors and hear about their projects. It’s for sale, so if you want to be inspired too find your local retailer. We need a paradigme shift and it can only happen bottom up - yet we need better structure so everyone can afford joining it! MARCH Editorial | No. 4 Grande Panorama In Drøbak, Norway, a former nursing home from 1968 was transformed into 28 apartments through a thoughtful approach to adaptive reuse, circular design and material recovery. The starting point was a strong structuralist concrete and brick building, with pronounced horizontal and vertical axes. Rather than covering this up, @borhavenarkitekter focused on bringing the original structure back into focus, removing later additions that had slowly obscured it. The original concrete and brick façades were preserved. Bricks from demolished parts were cleaned and reused, while concrete elements were even “transplanted” inside the building to repair previous renovations. And then there’s the teak windows. They no longer worked with the new floor heights, but instead of being discarded, they found a second life in a floating sauna by @actstudio.eu, becoming part of Drøbak’s growing sauna culture. A new wooden volume with seven apartments was added at the rear, creating a softer transition towards the surrounding neighbourhood. Outside, ramps and technical installations were removed to make space for greener areas, while new balconies and terraces open towards the Oslo Fjord. What stayed with us is the way Grande Panorama treats an existing building not as something to work around, but as a resource. Its structure, materials, proportions and even its windows all became part of the next chapter. We are happy to share that Collective Fabula and ACT! are beginning to research: How housing rehabilitation can become more multispecies-friendly through design and architecture approaches. 🐦🦇🐝🦎 Focusing on the context of Oslo. Many vulnerable species have adapted and found refuge in urban environments, and human housing is often co-habited by other species that we barely notice. Housing rehabilitation practices can drastically affect these species and lead to habitat loss. Within the Ecologies of Home project we aim to foster broader sensibility of multispecies ecology and regenerative urban futures, while exploring and developing specific multispecies-friendly rehabilitation experiments. 🏗️🏡🦇🐦 Big thanks to the bat expert Jeroen van der Kooij for interesting discussions and insights into bat life in Oslo. 🦇🌻 Photos: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 by Armelle Breuil Photos: 2, 7 by Rūta Jumīte by @actstudio.eu
