We’re having the BEST time at the @afffestival!

We’re especially excited to celebrate the Best Student Film Award for “Housing Hope,” a documentary created as part of @acujmc’s Documentary Storytelling class.

The JMC Department was well represented at the festival. Makayla Clayton’s documentary, “Restored: Rwanda’s Journey of Healing and Hope,” was also selected and screened at the festival.

And one of our favorite parts? Running into ACU JMC alumni at AFFF! It’s always exciting to see where our graduates are taking their passion for storytelling.
Congratulations to all of our students and alumni who are making their mark in the film community!

A BIG thank you to the AFFF team for creating a beautiful space for filmmakers! taken in Frontier Texas! by @acujmc

Production is underway! 🎥

Students in Promotional Video Practicum are officially in production on a series of videos for @visitabilene highlighting the people, places and experiences that make Abilene such a wonderful place.

Students are getting hands-on experience creating real work for a community partner. One of our first shoots featured Steve Neves, Professor of Art at Hardin-Simmons University and Abilene’s “Storybook Sculptor.” Neves has brought beloved storybook characters to life through the bronze sculptures found throughout Abilene.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look.

JMC alumna MK Rotenberry stopped by recently to catch up with Rotenberry Dream Big Scholarship recipient Roman Raffaeli and hear about his summer as a broadcast intern with the Frederick Keys, a Minor League Baseball team in Maryland.

Established in 2019 to support JMC students pursuing unique and challenging internship opportunities, the scholarship helped support Roman as he spent the summer getting hands on experience in sports media. Thank you, MK, for continuing to invest in our students and encouraging them to dream big! 💜 by @acujmc

🎬 OFFICIAL SELECTION! 🎬
We’re incredibly excited to announce that our documentary has been officially selected for the Amarillo International Film Festival! ✨

“Housing Hope” documentary is about shedding light on the realities of homelessness, amplifying the voices of those who are often unseen and pointing to the hope that is found in Jesus Christ. Hope through compassion. Hope through community. Hope through advocates like Abilene Hope Haven, who are working every day to make a difference and serve those in need.

Thank you to Jana, our courageous subject, for trusting us with her story; Abilene Hope Haven, our community partner; the ACU Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for supporting this project and our amazing crew.

See you in Amarillo in October!
More to come. 🎬✨

Meet one of our camera operators, Abbey Monroe! 🎥

Abbey stepped behind the camera to film the “Housing Hope” documentary, embracing a role that challenged her to grow as a filmmaker while capturing meaningful moments throughout the production.

👋 Hey! My name is Abbey Monroe. I’m a multimedia student at Abilene Christian University. I am one of the camera operators on this film which was really cool considering outside the documentary, operating the camera was a little out of my comfort zone and this helped me not only practice, but apply a new perspective to moments happening in real time.
Outside of this documentary, I make short films for ACU Film Fest! This year I’ve directed and edited three films, whilst also getting to be a part of the process for two more serving in more minor roles.

🎬 Thanks Abbey for helping us document this meaningful story. taken in Abilene Christian University by @acujmc
