59km ultra marathon ⛰️🏃

why? why not? Simply do the hard things & demand more from yourself.

Anyways, had solid race. nutrition was on point and didn’t cramp at all. Hips flexors gave out (weird ikr) at 30km but it wouldn’t be a challenge without a tweak somewhere. Genuinely happy with the performance despite signing up with 1 week’s notice on a whim. I’LL TAKE IT AAAAAAHHHHHHH

thank you to all the supporters, go get after it 🫶🤝 by @ad.train

MY FIRST 50KM TRAIL ULTRA MARATHON ⛰️🏃

11 hours, 2400m of elevation, 37km of cramp on both quads, insanely tough course and 1 deluded human

28 weeks of prep, 90+ runs, 90+ gym sessions, 1000km+ ran, a million gels eaten and hours on hours refining my systems

Race day didn’t go as planned but the job must get done

Thanks for following the journey so far 🫶 by @ad.train

I couldn’t run a kilometre without gassing out. I was always the weakest and slowest in the room. Fast forward two years and I’m 18 weeks out from my first 50km trail ultra marathon.

As someone who fell in love with lifting weights for strength over the past 4 years, I’ve always HATED running. Even with two half marathons under my belt, I never had solid preparation and downplayed cardio because of it.

But something snapped and I’m now 10 weeks deep into a 28-week prep for an ultra. I plan to document every detail for the rest of this journey—not for likes, attention, or followers, but to show that don’t have to be gifted or naturally athletic to physically perform - 55kgs on the top left 🤣 & 70kgs on the right.

I’m just a regular person with a 9-5 proving that with the right plan, intention, and execution, you can achieve the goals you dreamt of.

MELB MARA RECAP !!!

What an absolute beauty. Vibes HIGH, moral HIGH and race environment even HIGHER!! The result is what it is, I gave it my all with the legs I was given on the day. It’s hard to not get caught up in the stigma around the “marathon time” especially when my race fell to bits knowing I’m capable of more. It’s only my first road marathon though (woohoo!) and I know endurance will come over time if I continue to stay in healthy shape.

Race recap lol
0-5 warming up ~20 seconds behind pace
5-15 trying to find rhythm but course was extremely congested so had to dodge people
15-25 squeezing a little to try find sub-4 pacer ~was trailing 2 minutes behind at this point
25-42 quads said nope, wall said hello. sub-4 wasn’t happening so I slowed the pace, soaked up the atmosphere and struggle-fested to the end.

Anyways I had the best support from my friends & family. I want to use this to inspire & remind people to go get after it. Life is really just a string of small consistent actions that will stack up everyday. go enjoy it BAAAAAAAAH 😛

WEEK 11 & 12

We have arrived. Deload + taper with race day on sunday. I’m extremely happy with the block and all the work I’ve put in. It’s no easy feat to get through it all untouched - big thanks to @bryn_yates for coaching me for the past few months. In terms of expectation, well I have no expectation. I’m detached from the result on sunday - the number on the clock doesn’t determine anything. I’m just so keen to just run and see how it goes. The important part was the process of getting the work done day in & day out and I’m satisfied with it. But with that in mind, i’m still going to absolutely SEND IT 😛

(p.s legs feel like slugs, hopefully race day does its magic)

WEEK 10

Wow that was absolutely mental - stoked with the last big week of prep. Everything was dialled in and as a result I managed to have a really smooth week. Long run race sim went perfectly - felt easy for the first 24km then dug a little for the last 6. It was nice to let my legs rip for fun lol. Time to reset for race day, most of the physical work has been done so now it boils down to how well I can mentally prepare myself for race day. SO EXCITED !!!!

WEEK 9

Nothing easy about the peak weeks but damn that was rough. My body wasn’t giving me the response I needed to train so sessions got delayed → sleep got delayed → snowballed into the next day. Ended up missing a few on the backend of the week to recover but IT IS WHAT IT IS. I still managed to munch a monster long run which I’m pretty stoked with, getting that done is a solid confidence booster. Making a few adjustments this week to ensure I’m sleeping 8-9 hours but keeping everything else as per - LETS HAVE IT!!!!

WEEK 8

OH MY DAYS it’s starting to feel REAL!!! Nothing new to unravel just stacking another solid week. Really happy with how I’m feeling, long run this week was absolutely sicko and the fact I still have 2-3 more weeks of quality building before the taper is promising. Daily reminder to stay committed to the day and only the day.

WEEK 7

WAHEY WAHEY! Another week clocked in. I feel great but definitely into the thick of it now - clocked some proper running mileage this week. Not much else to say, just gotta keep at it. Continuous reminder to focus on the sleeps, nutrition - mainly carb intake and executing the session as it’s intended.

WEEK 6 (messed up the timeline)

After a few rough days of jetlag I can safely say that I AM BACK. Lots of easy work this week but I’m firing on all cylinders and I’ve genuinely never felt this fresh. Anyways the volume is creeping up, the long runs are going to get looooong but the process remains the same. Reflecting on this stage of prep from my ultra last year (lead into peak weeks) I think it’s important to stay focused, control the controllables and take it day by day. There is nothing “easy” about getting fitter but I think this is where you find the answers that a training block demands from you.

WEEK 4 5 6

Half time euro stop - or are we calling it heat training? Anyways this trip was inevitable and was the reason training was all gas even before the official “prep” started so I’m not fussed about 1-2 empty weeks. Running around is probably one of the most wicked ways to explore a city and it’s even better when the infrastructure is built for it (Hyde park is amazing). This is one of the only times I’ve had time off training this year so it was nice to reset both physically and mentally but I’m also reminded that I genuinely love this game. There’s something about this itch and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Finally back home so now the foot is back on the pedal ⛽️

WEEK 3

light week turned into a milestone 💀 anyways it was the final push before a few weeks break. i’ll definitely try keep up with whatever training I can while overseas but it’s been 3-4 months of FULL GAS no breaks so it’ll be nice to reset and comeback at 110%
