Nous avons le plaisir d'accueillir Amanda Amour-Lynx (@amour.lynx ) en résidence chez Ada X du 1 septembre jusqu’au 23 octobre.

Amanda Amour-Lynx est une artiste interdisciplinaire et animatrice « Two Spirit » et neurodivergente basée à Montréal, d’origine urbaine l’nu, écossaise et française, membre de la Première Nation de Wagmatcook. Son art allie les approches traditionnelles l’nu’k, la peinture contemporaine, les nouveaux médias et les arts numériques, en s’inspirant de la cosmologie mi’kmaq, des récits sur les étoiles, des savoirs écologiques, de l’identité de genre et de la renaissance linguistique.
 Pour sa résidence cet automne à Ada X, Amanda développera 𝙉𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙠𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙠, 𝙍𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜, une œuvre d’art en réalité augmentée où les plantes indigènes reprennent le paysage.

We're happy to welcome Amanda Amour-Lynx (@amour.lynx) in residency at Ada X from September 1st to October 23rd!

Amanda Amour-Lynx is a Two Spirit, neurodivergent urban L’nu-Scottish-French interdisciplinary artist and facilitator currently living in Montreal, Quebec and member of Wagmatcook FN. Their art combines traditional l’nu’k approaches, contemporary painting with new media and digital arts guided by Mi’kmaq cosmology, star stories, ecological knowledges, gender identity and language resurgence.

For their fall residency, Amanda will develop 𝙉𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙠𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙠, 𝙍𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜, an augmented reality artwork where native plants take over the landscape. taken in Ada X by @ada_x_mtl

5 @ tech → Nos rencontres régulières pour rencontrer d'autres membres, partager vos connaissances et expérimenter avec nos équipements dans une ambiance décontractée.

Formations → Ada X propose des ateliers et formations pour développer de nouvelles compétences en arts médiatiques et culture numérique.

Résidences artistiques → Un programme de résidences est offert chaque année. Les artistes sélectionné·es bénéficient d'un espace de travail, de l'équipement et d'un cachet pour développer leur projet, avec l'opportunité de présenter leur travail au public.

Collaboration et location → Ada X travaille avec des artistes, écoles, bibliothèques, festivals et autres organismes pour développer des activités adaptées à chaque groupe. Nous louons aussi notre galerie pour des événements ponctuels.

Here are some of the ways to get involved in Ada X's community:

Artist residencies → A research and creation residency program is offered every year. Selected artists benefit from a workspace, equipment, and a stipend to develop their project, with the opportunity to present their work.

Membership types → Several options and tiers are available depending on your needs.

Collaboration and rentals → Ada X works with artists, schools, libraries, festivals, and other organizations to develop activities tailored to each group. We also rent out our gallery for one-time events.

Workshops → Ada X offers workshops to help develop new skills in media arts and digital culture.

5 @ tech → Our regular meetups to connect with other members, share your knowledge, and experiment with our equipment in a relaxed setting.

Fondé en 1996 sous le nom Studio XX, Ada X est un centre d’artistes féministe bilingue engagé dans l’exploration, la création et la réflexion critique en arts médiatiques et en culture numérique. Il soutient la production et la diffusion du travail d’artistes femmes, trans, non-binaires et queer. Ada X souhaite démystifier, donner accès, outiller, questionner et créer, le centre participe activement au développement d’une démocratie numérique.

Ada X est situé, avec plusieurs organismes artistiques, dans Le Pôle artistique 4001. Ce projet a été créé pour soustraire l’édifice de la menace spéculative du marché immobilier et pour préserver ce haut lieu d’arts actuels.

Depuis 1997, Ada X produit aussi HTMlles, un festival bi-annuel féministe d’arts médiatiques et de culture numérique en collaboration avec plusieurs centres d’artistes, organismes artistiques et centres de recherche à Montréal et ailleurs.

Founded in 1996 under the name Studio XX, Ada X is a bilingual feminist artist-run centre engaged in the exploration, creation, and critical reflection on media arts and digital culture. It supports the production and dissemination of work by women, trans, non-binary, and queer artists. Ada X aims to demystify, provide access, equip, question, and create, actively participating in the development of a digital democracy.

Ada X is located, alongside several other artistic organizations, in Le Pôle artistique 4001. This project was created to shield the building from the speculative threat of the real estate market and to preserve this key hub for contemporary arts.

Since 1997, Ada X has also produced HTMlles, a biannual feminist media arts and digital culture festival, in collaboration with several artist-run centres, arts organizations, and research centres in Montreal and beyond.

Nous commencerons la soirée avec Amélie, coordonnateur.ice technique d’Ada X, qui vous présentera certains des outils et équipements disponibles chez Ada X.

Les participant·e·s seront ensuite invité·e·s à présenter un outil qu’iels utilisent dans leur propre pratique et à expliquer brièvement en quoi il facilite ou influence leur processus créatif et leur travail. Il peut s’agir d’un logiciel, d’une application, d’un appareil photo, d’un équipement, d’un outil de bricolage ou de quelque chose de moins conventionnel.

Aucune présentation formelle n’est requise. Cette soirée est l’occasion informelle d’échanger des connaissances, de découvrir de nouveaux outils et d’en apprendre davantage sur les méthodes de travail de chacun·e.

We’ll start the evening with Amélie, Ada X’s Technical Coordinator, who will introduce some of the tools and equipment available at Ada X.

Participants are then invited to present a tool they use in their own practice and speak briefly about how it supports their process and the work they make. This could be software, an app, a camera, equipment, a DIY tool, or something less conventional.

No formal presentation is needed. The evening is an informal opportunity to exchange knowledge, discover new tools, and learn about each other’s ways of working. by @ada_x_mtl

Ada X a le plaisir d'annoncer l'arrivée d’Eva Giard au sein de son équipe, à titre de coordonnatrice des communications et des médias sociaux.  

Eva Giard (elle) est étudiante-chercheuse, présentement doctorante en communication de l’UQAM. Ses recherches portent sur les espaces musicaux et artistiques DIY québecois, la mémoire populaire et le patrimoine urbain. Dans le passé, elle a travaillé pour le Laboratoire pour les Droits en Ligne et les Technologies Alternatives (Lab-DELTA) sur les réseaux sociaux décentralisés (Mastodon, Fediverse) et les cultures hackers. Elle travaille aussi comme chercheuse contractuelle pour le centre d’innovation et de recherche appliquée en art et engagement social Artenso. Eva est également musicienne, DJ, et organisatrice d’évènements musicaux électroniques, expérimentaux et ambiants.

Ada X is pleased to announce the addition of Eva Giard to its team, as Communications and Social Media Coordinator.

Eva Giard (she/her) is a researcher and currently doing a PhD in Communication at UQAM. Her research focuses on Quebec’s musical and artistic DIY spaces, popular cuture archiving, and urban heritage. She previously worked with the Laboratory for Online Rights and Alternative Technologies (Lab-DELTA) on decentralized social networks (Mastodon, Fediverse) and on hacker culture. She also works as a contract researcher for Artenso, a centre for innovation and applied research in art and social engagement. Eva is also a musician, DJ, and organizer of music events spanning genres from dance to experimental and ambient music. by @ada_x_mtl

The Sensitive Sex Worker unfolds through lyrical vignettes drawn from the journals of Jasmine, a young diasporic Filipina living in Toronto. Jasmine navigates bipolar disorder and the emotional nuances of sex work through her personal diary entries. This hybrid documentary film constantly shifts visual language and explores sex as performance, labour, intimacy, and survival - resisting simplistic narratives of either victimhood or empowerment. Instead, the film embraces contradiction and complexity, inviting viewers into the grey areas.
Dina spent three years directing and producing this project in close collaboration with Jasmine Atienza. Dina wanted the film to ask: What does sex work look like when we refuse to impose a singular narrative? Rather than romanticizing or condemning it, she wanted to create space for ambiguity and allow Jasmine's voice and gaze to remain at the centre. The film moves across six distinct visual chapters, each reflecting a different facet of her inner world and challenging the conventional documentary form. The film was created by an all-woman production team.

ARTIST:
Dina Lobo is a filmmaker, artist and poet whose multidisciplinary practice explores themes of womanhood, sensuality, identity, and self-perception. Her work is shaped by an ongoing engagement with the taboo, contradiction, and what is often deemed "ugly" within the emotional landscape, frequently moving toward what remains unresolved. Dina holds a Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). Since directing her first documentary in 2016, she has gone on to direct three films.

Au cours de l'été, le projet « Allo Ada en vacances » a permis de rejoindre des jeunes des camps de jour du quartier pour s'initier à l'art numérique par la pratique, tout en rencontrant des artistes professionnels et de la relève.

Avec les artistes @marigodbout, @sima.lulu et @_marionschneider, l'équipe de médiatrices @stephanielagueux et @noemieowo est allée à la rencontre des jeunes de @calm.obnl (Centre des Arts et des Langues de Montréal), du @centresablon et de la Maison d'Aurore. Nous avons : peuplé un aquarium numérique en imaginant la perspective d'un poisson dans son environnement artificiel ; donné forme et couleurs à des odeurs pour les installer dans la réplique d'un parc en Pologne ; bricolé des appareils conducteurs pour écouter une performance collective avec des plantes.

Tous ces projets et d'autres encore se retrouvent sur Allo Ada, un espace virtuel d'Ada X. Il nous reste encore quelques ateliers à offrir, écrivez-nous si ça vous intéresse !

With artists @marigodbout, @sima.lulu and @_marionschneider, art educators @stephanielagueux and @noemieowo met young people from @calm.obnl, @centresablon, and Maison d'Aurore. We: populated a digital aquarium imagining a fish's view of its habitat; gave shape and color to smells and installed them in a replica of a Polish park; and built conductive devices to listen to a collective performance with plants.

All these projects, and more, are on Allo Ada, a virtual space by Ada X. A few workshops are still available, get in touch if interested!

As part of Open Hardware Month, @radiosnack.tech and @cyberlovegarden are organizing, in collaboration with @ada_x_mtl , a series of free, volunteer-led workshops to share tools and techniques related to creative coding with the community.

We invite people to submit a workshop or event of any kind that is in some way about creative code. We will make a selection and host as many as we can from October 23-26.

Suggestions:
- An introduction on how to code on your favourite platform
- How to use a library or piece of code you like
- A meetup about a specific tool
- Live code or performance

Dans le cadre du Open Hardware Month, @radiosnack.tech et @CyberLoveGarden organisent, en collaboration avec @ada_x_mtl, une série d'ateliers gratuits et animés par des bénévoles, afin de partager avec la communauté des outils et des techniques liés au code créatif.

Nous invitons toute personne intéressée à proposer un atelier ou un événement, quel qu'en soit le format, pourvu qu'il porte sur le code créatif. Nous effectuerons une sélection et programmerons le plus grand nombre possible de ces activités entre le 23 et le 26 octobre.

Quelques idées :
- Une introduction de code sur votre plateforme préférée
- L'utilisation d'une library ou d'un fragment de code que vous appréciez
- Une rencontre autour d'un outil spécifique
- Une session de « live coding » ou une performance

Retour sur la résidence de Marian Godbout (@marigodbout ) réalisé à Ada X du 1er septembre au 26 décembre 2025 dans le cadre du Programme « Compétences numérique pour les jeunes » (CNJ) coordonnée par L’Alliance des arts médiatiques indépendants (AAMI) et financé par le Gouvernement du Canada. Vivarium est un projet de récit interactif en réalité virtuelle inspiré de l’aquariophilie amateure. Alors que les humains s’enferment de plus en plus à l’intérieur pour regarder le monde à travers des écrans, la tendance aux plantes d’intérieur et aux aquariums pointe vers un besoin de reconnexion avec la nature tangible. À travers les communautés virtuelles bâties autour de ces hobbies, le public est invité à se questionner sur la liberté de choix au sein d’une technocratie capitaliste.

A look back at Marian Godbout’s (@marigodbout) held at Ada X from September 1 to December 26, 2025, as part of the "Digital Skills for Youth" (CNJ) Program, coordinated by the Independent Media Arts Alliance (AAMI) and funded by the Government of Canada. Vivarium is an interactive story-telling project in virtual reality inspired by amateur fishkeeping. While humans are more and more isolated indoors and looking at the world through screens, the growing trend of owning plants and aquariums seems to indicate a need for connection with tangible nature. Through a digital community built around these hobbies, the audience is invited to question its freedom of choice in a capitalist technocracy.
