I made this urn for Louie, the beloved cat of @amhart_
The design on the lid is by her and I engraved it.
This urn is designed to hold the default urn from the cremation facility to avoid having to transfer the ashes. It is made of pategonian rosewood with a custom 3d printed threaded lid screw. This is also the first time I've used my new laser engraver for something like this and I am thrilled with how it came out. The wood is finished with several coats of beeswax and linseed oil. by @adam_damato

Made this little desk for myself out of an old door. I inlaid mahogany strips into the grooves to make it flat and suspended it by some cherry and walnut beams I got on Facebook marketplace.
I have more monitors set up now but didn't feel like cleaning my desk for this post. by @adam_damato

I made this deployable TV setup for my parents using some spare unistrut and pulleys I had laying around. All of the cabling is routed with it so nothing has to be unplugged. The height and angle can also be adjusted fairly easily.
The TV does that funky little rotation to keep the screen facing down so it doesn't get water/debris on it when its in the storage position.
I also built the structure that its in, but it was a kit from Costco so I can't take full credit.
The plastic walls were custom ordered so that we can hang out and play the switch 'outside' in the winter. by @adam_damato

I bought this CNC router off marketplace about 1.5 years ago. It has been close to 10 years since I built my first CNC machine, and after chipmunks got into the electrical, it was time for an upgrade.
As part of getting this machine, I had to run more power to my workshop, upgrade my air compressor, and install a full dust collection system which I will probably make a separate post on, and run the vacuum hold down system outside so it doesn't destroy my eardrums.
I also made several improvements to the machine itself. I didn't like how the cables all hung off the sides of the x axis, so I re-wired everything overhead through a cable chase including a compressed air line for clearing chips. I also made a little overhead system for the dust collection so it doesn't get caught on anything.
For the vacuum pull down, I added electronic control gates so I can switch which zones are active through some light switches on the side of the machine.
I will also be posting more of what I've been using it for soon!

I made this rotary paint holder for group craft nights & painting miniatures and recently had to add another tier for more paints!
I designed it in Solidworks, cut it on my cnc router, 3d printed an adapter for the lazy susan, and finished the surface with mineral oil.
It would be pretty easy to design and open source variant people could 3d print at home. Please comment if interested.

Finally got around to carving a proper brand to mark things I make. The logo is my initials and also all of the letters of my first name. It's a little crude and I will probably continue to make minor changes to it over time, but I like it.
The brand is carved out of brass for its high thermal conductivity and ease to work with compared to steel. by @adam_damato

Maple & cherry end grain cutting board I made for my mom for Christmas. The surface is finished with roughly 5 coats of mineral oil.
I used my CNC router to cut the wavy pattern then stacked and glued all of the sections. I still have quite a bit of material but haven't decided whether to make more cutting boards or use them as a part of a table. by @adam_damato

Maple burl bowl I turned about a year ago. It has been living a fulfilling life as a dice bowl ever since.
I will be better about recording time-lapses of small projects like this going forward.

Also, I have a lot of much bigger and more exciting projects that I will be posting once I finish getting caught up, so stay tuned!

This is a piece I made late in 2024 using a CNC router I fixed up from craigslist. To make this, I isolated each color of the image into its own vector map, flipped the image horizontally, then cut it into the back of the acrylic. Then, after each cut, I painted the cut region the appropriate color using acrylic paints. The last, brightest section, I left unpainted. By layering it like this, the brightest colors also let the most light through.
Also, by having everything cut into the back, the piece is perfectly smooth and glossy on the front while still showing the texture from the process.

This piece was a proof of concept and I'm looking forward to making more stuff like it. by @adam_damato

First attempt at some natural diamond earrings!
This month, work sent me to Antwerp, Belgium for a rough natural diamond appraisal course. I knew diamonds varied a lot going in, but I had no idea they could form in such a wide variety of shape and color.
The sad part is, the jewelry industry targets specific colors, clarity, and shape, to the extent of intentionally breaking beautifully formed irregular shapes into smaller, easier to handle chunks. Almost every cut stone you see is a maximum of 50% its original size, and in most cases, significantly less.
Additionally, the impurities often make the color in the stone even more vibrant, and the irregular shapes add to the natural facets and unique characteristics of each stone. Since all of these factors reduce the value in the jewelry industry, it makes a fun niche in uncut natural diamonds.

My grandfather has been living next to the same lake for the past 65+ years. Over the last few years, he has lost almost all vision in both eyes. I wanted to make him something he could feel, so I carved the base of this bowl in the shape of the lake and put a pin where his house is.
