I’ve been thinking a lot about how creativity survives in places it’s not designed for. What does an artist do in an economics class? What does imagination look like w/o institutional support? Or when the future feels fragile?

Working with @63Audubon has reminded me that sketches matter. As early gestures toward what civic life could be. And proof that creativity is often exactly what unexpected spaces need the most.

Drawn Together is an exhibition I’ve loved spending the last few months creating with @jason_rondinelli through a collaboration with the @yaleschoolofart and the @yalesom. Watching people across New Haven, from artists to engineers, from middle schoolers to generational residents, reimagine public space together has been veryyyy very special.

This week marks both the close of the exhibition and its continuation through two final events:

🧱 Thur. 1/15: Affordable Housing Discussion
📐 Sat. 1/17: Closing showcase ft. work by New Haven high schoolers ( developed w/ @yalearchitecture )

A little belated gratitude for one of many special moments with @blackgirlsinartspaces this year.

In October @itsdoublemc and I hosted a tour + discussion of Kara Walker: Back of Hand at De La Cruz gallery in Georgetown. The point of the discussion was to critically engage with Walker’s legacy and to challenge the ways we are expected to engage with art. The girls Came Through™️ and did just that and so much more. Some came with their mothers and daughters, others with their reservations and discomfort. Together we shared care, understanding, and a thirst for more.

Always grateful to @kacimerriwetherhawkins for fostering this community and providing a nurturing space for our curiosity and desire to build community through the arts. Cheers to more in 2024! 💐 by @adama.kamara

missing this, my favorite part of this summer.

one of the best things about this trip was getting to experience the Afro-Panamanian and Afro-Colombian culture in Colón and *especially* San Basilio de Palenque after hearing about it for so long.

Palenque is the first free African town in the Americas (1608) and I was so blown away by how thoughtful every single aspect of my tour was and how adamant they were about controlling the narrative of their independence

This was so special 🥹 taken in San Basilio de Palenque by @adama.kamara
