Santa Cruz x Pokémon TCG drops this Saturday, Oct 17. Two worlds that were built on the same thing: kids and collectors who showed up first.

The spot is everything in skating, and the spot was everything in Pokémon GO. That’s one reason this collab works, and both brands win.

Retail buyers don’t care that you got the license. They care if it sells.

I learned that the expensive way One license I paid $25K and never used it. The license was the easy part. Getting product made, priced and onto a shelf is the actual job.

So I built the License Readiness Scorecard. A few quick questions on your product, margins and MGs, manufacturing, retail sell-in and reporting. Then I personally review where you stand. No auto-generated score, just a straight read from someone who’s spent 23 years in apparel and licensing.

I’m about to say something most people in this industry won’t.

Getting the license isn’t the win.
The deal is the win.

Signing feels like victory. It’s not. It’s the moment they start watching whether you can actually deliver.

I’ve seen people lock a deal and lose the whole program because they thought the signature was the finish line.

The real win is execution. Retail. Reorders. Relationships that outlast the paperwork.
