Another lovely Monday at @nortonsimon with @mdoering and today’s guest @ant1.draws in the rain. Got a little wild with some new medium today. Water color crayons. My intention was to use them to study landscapes and it turned out that my pallet was perfectly suited to this Picasso study. I also did some more traditional study and I went and found the Matisse Odalisque that I had to leave unfinished as the museum was closing.

Tonight was the first class of @conceptdesignacad gesture drawing for animation class. We discussed how our eyes translate our lines into information and how to use Lines of Action. (It’s rarely the spine and rarely just one)
The last hour of class was to take what we’ve learned and to create a simple mannequin for ourselves so that we are not obliged to adhere to the models. We are to use the models as gestural and story prompts. We each built our own versions of an obnoxious merchant in the Incan empire and then used that mannequin to translate the gestures into narrative.

A really strong class so far. I’m very excited to share their work later.

Another round of museum drawing! Today was a mix of 1 delightful painting that I love so much it’s caused me anxiety to think about doing a master copy of and two paintings I don’t like for a myriad of reasons.

I obviously adore the sassy knight. The convent is a perspective mess, so I spent my time finding corrections. However that is just the beginning and most obvious issues with that painting. Lastly, the cows. It’s fine but a bit dull due to the placement of the trees in the center of the composition. In combination with the boats, and the height competing with the wildly steep hill, the trees kill any movement of our eyes. So I removed them

All in all a very fun time. Ran into some @warriorpainters who came by and said hi. 👋

Had a really fun time tonight drawing Wednesday Addams. Model killed it (womp womp)! For a character that requires such understatement she really brought the performance. And the hilarious fun of @art_of_maximus being uncle fester! All around one of the best nights @draw_cosplay_la

Playing more with compositional puzzles and pushing and pulling the lighting for clarity and organization. I love those old gnarled trees and after the previous one of him in the tree I wanted to see the forest.
