new profile pic who dis?? (but actually, who is this girl? 😂)
help which one for my profile pic? except I might have already picked and won’t listen let’s see

and oops I didn’t mean to take this long to post these (moving abroad all alone things) but that’s something for another time. anyway Korea style profile pic was one of those final things I wanted to try before leaving 😅 (actually I always wanted to try a body profile but I missed that window lol)
I only did 1 concept but I got a bonus “event” photo for a Valentine’s Day promo (yes I did these that friggen long ago) and it’s way way wayyyy too embarrassing to add in here so I’ll bury it in a photo dump or story lmao

this was my comfort song during my happiest/best year in Korea (2023) so I had to pick it even if it became trendy🥹

my millennial optimism(?) story part 3: solarpunk & the world beyond North America

it’s a journey
this has been mine
I gave up, I picked myself back up
for younger me, for the people who came before me, for the people who will come after me, for our pale blue dot

This is a condensed story of the last 15 years of my life, my journey with hopes of somehow, in some way, changing the world, through the lens of solarpunk being an increasingly popular topic online.
Part 3 covers 2024 to now.

It’s been hard not to get jaded. I think it’s a pain of every millennial who grew up in the “we can change things” (millennial optimism) era only to see how quickly so much has fallen apart.
I hope anyone interested in solar punk appreciates the work to get there, and that it is a future people have been working towards since the first energy/oil crisis in the 70s.
This journey is not linear, sometimes it’s one step forward, two steps back.

yes, traveling started as healing, so this video is through a selfish and personal lens. yes, it’s a total privilege.
It’s also why I like to share what I was privileged to experience. Travel is primarily what I post but not all I do. The videos are my creative outlet. It’s how I reflect and how I continue to learn about the world just like I have in the lab or at work before.
(and I was too broke & busy to do it in my 20s you know 😅)

I’m still not fully up yknow, so any advice, I’m here <3
but I don’t believe in giving up

my millennial (not so) optimism story, part 2: solarpunk & the valley of despair (2016-2024)

This is a condensed story of the last 15 years of my life, my journey with hopes of somehow, in some way, changing the world, through the lens of solar punk being an increasingly popular topic online.

I’m sorry that after a hopeful part 1 we return to some doom and gloom, but I need to express that it’s part of the journey.
The same bleak headlines might make someone motivated and optimistic of possible alternatives for the future, but might have someone else more defeated if they’ve been working for a while.
Plus just regular life - needing to afford staying alive in the world.
I share this so that we can keep having understanding of each other as humans. Constructive collaboration and less judgement (relevant people in power excluded).

*Credit to a video I saw from @mawuli.xyz presenting the graph with the emotional cycles of change with respect to solarpunk, and it really contextualized some of the reactions brought out in me at some of the more cutesy optimistic short videos hyping up solar punk.

I didn’t get a job in green tech but I still enjoyed my job - because in designing new facilities with clients, I saw that major companies are taking sustainability initiatives seriously and we were implementing more efficient processes with recycling wastewater, recovering heat, reducing energy and water use and waste.
And medicines solve needs, medicines save lives, medicines are useful.
I also want people to realize the differences in scale of operations and investments.

But regardless of industry, corporate is still corporate and burn out is always a possibility if you keep putting other care above your own. So keep it in mind too 🙏🏻💖

I didn’t plan for this to be 3 parts 😅 but with so much to say I’d rather not limit it, because it’s my story anyway! And we need to keep allowing space for nuance.

my millennial optimism story, part 1: solarpunk & my microalgae utopia

This is a condensed story of the last 15 years of my life, my journey with hopes of somehow, in some way, changing the world, through the lens of solar punk being an increasingly popular topic online.

*I took some clips from a YT video by Euronews - “How microalgae can treat wastewater and turn it into a valuable resource”)

this one’s straight from the depths of my heart and soul <3

remember when we could post and see what we want without an algorithm between us?

nostalgia brought to you as a reminder that a slop future is only inevitable if we forget that we can actually just do things properly? and we’ve done it before..

also gonna stop myself from caring about any new wrinkles from now on cause my cringe millennial ass got to live through the 90s & 2000s 🙏🏻 by @adamikachu

If you’ve ever wondered why Wroclaw is the city of gnomes 🫶🏻 (it’s cause Polish people are badass 😌)

The gnomes (kransale) originate from the Orange Alternative movement (Pomarańczowa Alternatywa) in the 80s which started in Wrocław. A peaceful resistance movement against the communist rule. They’d get painted over spots where authorities covered up anti-communist graffiti, cause the government would look dumb if they tried to censor murals of gnomes. A fun way to ridicule the regime 🤠🍄

I love learning Polish history because there is so much resilience, rebellion against oppression and creativity in resistance throughout our history.

Książ castle (Zamek Książ) has interesting history too. It was supposedly going to be converted to the headquarters of Hitler. Nazis took it over during the war and built a bunch of underground tunnels (but the purpose has never been confirmed).
Anyway, there are other day trips you can do like Świdnica or Polanica-Zdrój.

A little educational cause we love a good backstory 🫶🏻

you have to try it first yall.
with fresh strawberries in the summer 😮‍💨 or with wild blueberries even (smaller and sweeter than normal blueberries)
you have to remember we also have fruit-based pierogi in Poland that you eat with sour cream and sugar, it’s really not so weird! sweet and creamy and good! taken in Wroclaw [Wroclove] by @adamikachu

Switching to the seaside for Piran 🤗🌊

About 2-3 hours from Ljubljana we have a coastal medieval town on the Adriatic Sea, between Italy and Croatia (I went from Bled).
It’s small (can walk around main streets in 20 min) so I loved a good leisurely day. Walking along the promenade, through narrow pastel streets, gelato at cafes by the water, I didn’t film too much.

You can also go up the cathedral for a good view but I went up the Walls of Piran instead :)

Back to Bled, then a cozy last day in Ljubljana.
I had plans like going up to Ljubljana castle but I ate all day instead 😅
📍Ljubljana: Klobasarna - Carniolan sausage (Kranjska klobasa) + Istrian stew (Jota) & Moji Štruklji Slovenije - traditional dumplings with cottage cheese + raspberry/white chocolate dumplings

I will definitely visit Slovenia again!!

Favourite day!!! Crazy beautiful gorge, countryside walks, hiking and swimming in Lake Bled. Slovenia is so beautiful!

You can take a free shuttle bus or walk to Vintgar gorge from Bled. It’s €15 (25 CAD) for entry but soooo worth it.

Swimming around before sunset was my fav part of my travel 🥹
€24 (40 CAD) for my dinner with wine though 🤠 I usually do one proper restaurant dinner in a trip and eat a bit cheap otherwise. Today was that day. Bled is expensive but hiking was free anyway :)

📍Vintgar gorge (Triglav national park), Mala Osojnica viewpoint (Ojstrica viewpoint is the better one) in Lake Bled, Slovenia 🇸🇮
