Today, I successfully defended my thesis on Designing in Support of Home Births! after having a childbirth experience that almost took Indira and I from this world, I was angry. Angry that I wasn’t honored or respected in the most vulnerable time of my life. I didn’t even think this traumatic moment would inspire some of my best work! but like who would i be if i didn’t transmute? In short, I redesigned and dematerialized the labor and delivery room into an accessible kit for home births, monitoring vital signs and translating medical jargon into a more understandable visual language. These sophisticated devices were designed for use even if there is no technical experience. Ultimately, I want to bring births back into the home, while still maintaining a connection to medical professionals, with the birther driving their experience and making informed decisions about their health.. to not make this post too long (as if it’s already not lmao), I decided to do something instead of carry that pain with me. This project was like therapy for me, it was cathartic, healing, and I know that it can help so many women and birthers. I have a book coming in a few weeks too, so DM or text me if you’d like to buy a copy of my work 🥲 I’ll be posting more images and everything soon! as my 1st year of grad school closes out, i wanna share some slides from my design methods semester project. i was told to design a bottle. literally that’s it lmao. and was given 3-5 minutes presentation time to get to the meat of my project. i researched heavily and narrowed down what i found important, i wrote out so many things to guide my concepts and landed on 3: Water Molecule, Vintage Fem, and Earthbound. i sketched literally anything i could think of on post it notes and on procreate and considered what was the strongest direction to take. i learned the basics of rhino to make my models happen, 3D printed them and was able to have a professor of mine print out clear/frosted models in china as well. i swiftly became a goddess at rendering (its the fine artist in me 😝) and everything pulled itself together towards the end. i designed a logo and used AI to create my packaging design. i did it all (with guidance from some incredibly remarkable and talented ppl). i feel like im walkin the walk as a designer and preparing myself to be grounded in knowledge, able to successfully share my ideas and maintain my artistic values. proud of myself for birthing my daughter, take time to heal, and getting back to the work. im #her. onwards n upwards ☝🏽 taken in University of the Arts School of Design by @adannasgallery

im a TU graduate! my time at Towson was quick and though i was only really there for 3 semesters and one in nola, i learned much and my love and curiosity for the arts grew. i cant close this chapter of my life without acknowledging the ridicule, disrespect and straight up racism i experienced at this school. i reported an incident, trying to get someone held accountable for their racist sentiments that wasn’t handled well by diversity and inclusion, though they tried their best. in turn, i ended up having rumors spread about me by “professional” people and incessantly ridiculed by professors i didn’t even know prior. i had very little support at school. still, i stand by what i did at Towson because it was the right thing. they almost had me convinced i was in the wrong for standing ten toes in being anti-racist. there were few days i wasn’t saying to myself, “i should’ve went to an HBCU..” im proud i made it out of Towson with only a few scratches and stayed solid. i saw it through to the end despite the stress and after all of that, i really know how much discipline i got lmao CLASS OF 2022 taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @adannasgallery
