From the shores of Mannar to the stage in Colombo. 🌊🎭What began as conversations, songs, stories, and shared experiences between coastal community members and theatre artists grew into something powerful for World Oceans Day 2026.Over days of training, learning, and creating together, the community artists of Mannar transformed their lived experiences into a performance that moved audiences, sparked conversations, and brought the realities of ocean communities to the spotlight.Thank you to everyone who joined us for Stories of the Sea: Voices from Mannar. For two weeks, stories flowed from the shores of Mannar to the stage in Colombo.Community artists, young storytellers, theatre practitioners, and renowned artists from Sri Lanka and India came together to listen, learn, create, and perform. Through movement, music, memory, and theatre, they brought to life stories of the ocean, coastal communities, labour, resilience, and the growing threats facing our seas.What began as conversations with fishing communities became a powerful collective performance. A reminder that the ocean is not just water. A week of hard work, getting the bodies used to new movments and learning to tell the stories through theatre, the team is now ready to take the stage in Colombo tomorrow at 5pm and 7pm at BMICH, Kamatha, The New Theatre.
