Fun day in Charlotte started with a visit to the Perry Art Collection (@perryartcollection ) @hbganttcenter (exceptional talents, beautiful art, a lesson in every panel!) and ended with an outstanding meal @greysdinerclt = those are deliciously light hush puppies served with pimento cheese (an all-time favorite!), and then a fantastic short ribs “bowl” with browned potatoes, spinach, luscious fried egg and incredibly dynamic flavors @greysdinerclt taken in Harvey B. From a very young age I knew that I likely wouldn’t ever be a father, yet being an uncle is something I fully relish. Not exactly a role for me, being an uncle is actually part of my identify. And it’s great. My siblings and their spouses have done such marvelous jobs as parents, all the hard work. #bestmealin2026 OK, people know I like to eat. Waffle 🧇 House 🏠 is a favorite. This evening I enjoyed the best gastronomic experience (for me) so far this year. The chefs handled everything - seating, wine service, cooking and conversation with the guests to discuss the dishes (5!) served, ingredients selected, process used and their personal connection to each recipe. #outstandingexperience #iknowgodlovesusbecauseartistsfeedus check out the shrimp ‘n grits (many layers, complex, fantabulous!), and the matcha basque-style cheesecake on mixed berry compote with braised strawberries - get here, and bribe Chef Malik to get yourself a set at the bar 😊 😃 😆 @rutledgekitchen 🙏 🙏 🙏 taken in R Kitchen by @adaynthelifenc

Tomorrow morning will find me driving up to Baltimore for the weekend to celebrate my twin sister’s birthday 🎉 - and YES, there will be 🦀 cakes as well as 🍫 cake. So, just returned from a long weekend in NYC. Thoroughly enjoyed revisiting some of the things I love about the city, but as I’m nearing my 6th decade I’m recognizing it’s the relationships I formed over 18yrs as a resident here that bring me joy. An evening of dance @thejoycetheater w/Tom & Les and hearing about their life in CT, an afternoon wandering around @themuseumofmodernart w/Ricky & Steve and updates on home renovation, bacon-egg-and-cheese (w/cheesecake!) breakfast @juniorscheesecake w/Jane and Terry and hearing about their choir’s “songs of resistance” concert, church @firstchurchbrooklyn & lunch @chamamamanyc w/Barbara & Jim and learning how well Caleb is navigating adulthood, dinner @dearmaudnj w/Mike & Pat and laughing at stories of the grandchildren, cocktails @theupandupnyc & jazz @smallslive w/Alex, cardamom chai latte and tales of her new beau w/Lynn @ferranebakery … these remarkable humans made for a rich weekend, and a content life! 🍎 #wearesocialbeingsafterall taken in New York, New York by @adaynthelifenc

So when my niece @katiedailshep asks me how I spent my 48 hours of snow-sleet-ice lockdown, I’ll probably respond with something like … I filled every vessel with tap water, finished a great book and started another 📚 baked some 🍪 cookies, drank some tea with lemon and ginger, experimented with smoked paprika on my 🥓 🥚 🧀 sandwich, reviewed A LOT of swimming 🏊 tutorials ✅ checked out a bunch of weather updates, had some more tea, tried out a new butter bean-venison-leek 🦌 dish 👍 experimented with a margarita concoction 🍋‍🟩 and eventually got used to the constant drip-drip-dripping 💧 coming from 3 open faucets around the house 🏠 … (oh, and … I spent a wee bit too much time staging photos…). 😊 taken in Greensboro, North Carolina by @adaynthelifenc

Just returned from a great couple of days in Lisbon - highly recommend touring Jeronimos Monastery with @rafaelzamithpereira who’s expert on Portugese cultural and political history, stopping in @momentos.lisb for a glass of wine and charcuterie board, and feasting at @malfamati.italianbistro - such a lovely couple, and very talented chef from Bari, Italy. taken in Lisbon, Portugal by @adaynthelifenc
