I’ve pushed this post off for a while now because it’s hard to find the words to say goodbye to something that has meant so much to me. When I first stepped onto the mat my freshman year, I had no idea how much wrestling would change my life. Wrestling is one of the toughest sports mentally and physically—it demands discipline, confidence, and determination every single day. Even though I didn’t always come out on top, I achieved goals that freshman Addi could have only dreamed of. These past four years have shaped me into the person I am today. Wrestling made me mentally stronger, taught me the value of hard work, and gave me relationships that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. None of this would have been possible without the people who stood beside me. Thank you to my family, friends, and especially my coaches for believing in me every step of the way. You pushed me when I didn’t believe in myself and helped me grow not only as an athlete, but as a student and a person on and off the mat. While my wrestling career has come to an end, I’m leaving with so much more than medals and plaques. I’m leaving knowing I gave everything I had and helped set a standard for the Festus High School wrestling team and for the girls who will come through the program after me.
