Summary: Feels Like Cheating (10⭐️)

The music was so good, it felt like I was cheating on hard techno. The crowd was energetic, facing the stage and completely lost in the lights, music, and dancing. The lighting, from the hallway all the way to the 4-by-7 light-panel backdrop of the stage, was excellent. The space was cool and had plenty of room to dance. The ticket price was cheaper than most raves out there, yet they delivered a level of production that most other raves can’t match.

I lost my wallet that night, and I think it was my fault. To whoever picked it up, please use it and take it to amazing places, just as I did.

My First Rave

Summary: The Day I Found Techno (10⭐️)

Year 2022. I was traveling solo abroad on an island in the middle of a jungle in the dead of night. I already had a lot in my system that night, and I wasn't going home until I satisfied my craving for adrenaline. I was craving connection and intensity.

This was before a friend of mine introduced me to Manila's rave scene.

It is not a PH rave, but I'm posting it anyway. This is how I discovered raving. This affects how I perceive raving.

I'm also keeping the exact details of this rave to myself. by @addingmaki

Summary: Underground

Music was dark, deep, melodic. Each flicker of the light creates an afterimage.

The community filled the main room just enough to dance. People were sociable and respectful.

I was with my closest friends last night.

Summary: Adult Playground

The event made me feel like a kid again. All 5 senses were hit as promised. Aether wasn’t just a gimmick. My jersey still smells like it.

Bought an Ascension pass, but honestly, Resonance is enough. Not much is missed without the ball pit or massage area. Pricey, but reasonable.

Only hassle was the long CR queues, though understandable 😉.

Fuck, that was good.

Summary: Loud. Lights. Love.

Klang Nacht is built on a PLUR community, backed by some excellent music. The chaos inside was exciting rather than exhausting, and the lights were amazing.

It did get warm inside, but they made sure everyone stayed hydrated and safe by providing free, easily accessible water. Honestly, I didn’t even mind getting sweaty.

The event was definitely an upgrade. The ticket price still feels like a steal. I'm not complaining about it though.

P.S. Not biased. It is what it is. It was amazing.

Klang Nacht: The Descent

Music and Performance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Selection is king. When the tracklist is this good, a simple fade would’ve set the room on fire. But these DJs took it further—fake glitches, desk-standing, and great technical execution. Perfect crowd reading and pure performance.

Crowd and Culture ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The crowd was solid and the energy stayed high—none of it was wasted waiting around for a drop. The place was packed, but never overcrowded.Full house energy without the shoulder-to-shoulder struggle.

Production and Venue ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Center stage, steel, sound, and strobe. No icky designs. Less is more. Easy S-tier production.

Logistic and Others ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The ticket price was a steal for an experience that completely clears the competition. It felt like a massive step up from the usual chaos — organized and professional.

My only regret is that I was so locked into the music that I forgot to Shazam anything. It was that good. I know I speak for everyone there when I say this production is levels above anything else right now.

Klang Nacht 6

Klang Nacht was gracious enough to invite me into the DJ booth and onto the stage. There’s nothing I can offer in return but my utmost appreciation, as it was such an incredible experience!

Akwa’s set was 🔥. My favorite part, though, was the technical glitch, as it captured the unseriousness of the Klang community that I love. No boos, no awws, no walkouts. Instead, the crowd cheered. It was such a good vibe.

This is the kind of community you want to be part of—a community that cheers you on when things get rough.

Klang Nacht still tops my list of hard techno raves. Other social circles think so too.

November is a hot month for raves, and it’s also Klang Nacht’s anniversary month. I’m definitely reserving a spot for Klang Nacht in my rave schedule.

Summary:

I had such a great time that I forgot to record anything. I lost my friends in the crowd and ended up finding new ones. UNKNWN is always a safe pick when choosing raves.

The lights were great and looked so damn hard to install. Hideki’s closing set was 🔥.

The venue was a bit crowded, and there were a few technical hiccups. I had to go outside several times to take a break.

Also, this was SO much better than the last UNKNWN at BSK. I’m glad they removed the re-entry fees.

Steam 3

Music 8⭐️

Exactly as advertised. The techno and pop mix at the start was my favorite part: catchy pop song lyrics mixed into a fast and hypnotic rhythm. Tackthai’s set almost sounded exactly like his SoundCloud track(AFTER HOURS 001 Driving Techno Mix), though.

Crowd and Culture 6⭐️

A circuit crowd with an entirely different set of cultural norms compared to what one would expect at a rave. Again, physique seems to be a mandatory social currency.

Production and Venue 6⭐️

Objectively speaking about the merits and demerits of the production, venue, and functionality.

Production-wise and functionality-wise, it was great. There was room to dance, a cool space, porta-potties, effective queuing systems, a new venue, and cheap water and alcohol. The lighting was essentially the same as in previous Steam events, but in a bigger space. The speakers were good during the first half, that is, until noise complaints were received.

For the second half, the speaker on the ceiling worked overtime as it tried to compensate for the loss of the main speaker system (I think). The sound became distorted and then just got lost as it was absorbed by the bodies of the ravers and the floor.

Value 2⭐️

Now, considering those promising marketing materials, the cost of a Steam ticket, and the consequences of the noise complaints, Steam fell a bit short of what is acceptable at that price point.

Summary: It Could've Been More (5.5⭐️ - OK)

The music was enjoyable and the venue had the basics covered for a good night out. However, considering the ticket price and what was promised, the overall experience felt short. With stronger sound throughout and a few more elements to elevate the experience, Steam could’ve been something truly special.
