I had the joy of speaking to Nicole Bazuin and Andrea Werhun about their hybrid doco Modern Whore, a film based on Andrea’s past experience as a sex worker. The film is told from her perspective providing autonomy to her story (and rightly so!)

We spoke about being creative, being a woman, being objectified, vulnerability/intimacy, and humour. Modern Whore plays at @sydneyundergroundfilmfest on Sat 12th September.

The nightmare of being a woman is the reality of merely existing. Thinking of femininity, form, and masking.

I've been anxious lately. I had to do a presentation for uni (I dread those).

To me, sound holds memory. I created a soundscape based on sounds I've collected over the past year. Typically insignificant and discarded sounds woven together to create emotion, meaning, and narrative. Maybe it's also reflective of my own worth idk.

I spoke in class about my year, how I edited these sounds at my church's 6pm getaway 'in the corner on ProTools like a loser'. I spoke about how much perception shifts overtime.

My sound teachers are supportive. They told me I'm smart and 'just pretend to be an audio bro with a pack of cigarettes and a rock n roll attitude.' by @addinosaur

Low key embarrassing but I wrote a song about having the confidence to leave a group to pee. That's some character growth I reckon.

In my course my teachers said, 'Addy, the humour, curiosity, and joyful experimentation that you bring to each of your projects are among your greatest creative strengths.' and 'Your feminist lens is a crucial critical tool that motivates you.'

So this perhaps a feminist song about peeing to assert dominance? Idk 😭🤷🏻‍♀️

I have been inspired by my friend's socially anxious sausage dog 🐕 and just being a very silly goose. I edited this on my phone, couldn't figure out fades but you can get the vibe lol

Couple of months ago Marie Claire interviewed my discipline lead and a couple of us soundies about our AFTRS experience and now I'm in a mag lol. I told my sound teacher I was nervous 'Crap. Gotta lock in with this sound thing now.' She told me, 'Sound girl for life!' No turning back!' ❤️💪🏼🎧

Prior I felt super nervous. I cut my own hair in a panic days prior and pretended I was cool/edgy. 😅💇🏻‍♀️ Marketing told me, 'Stop hiding awkwardly. Create more dominant shapes'

I did my R&D presentation recently. I spoke about representation and the industry guest encouraged me to continue my sound journey. 'You said there's not many female soundies and you're uncertain but you have a strong voice. Maybe you can be a pioneer. Keep going.' by @addinosaur
