Life update! I’m spending the next year interning at UGA Wesley on the media team, and I am so eager to pour into an organization that poured into me throughout my college experience. Here are some photos I took during Wesley’s first Wednesday service of the school year on August 19, 2026. taken in University of Georgia Wesley Foundation by @addisonnsimmons

Nine months ago, I sat in the photo cave as @markejohnson told the class that he was working on getting together a group of six students to photograph the 2026 FIFA World Cup. At this point I had only photographed one high school football game, but something in me knew I had to be on the pitch come June 2026.

I went to intramural soccer games at UGA to get a feel for shooting the sport, but went into tryouts feeling like I had no idea what I was doing. I was a nervous wreck and left thinking there was no way I would make the coverage team, but I was proud of myself for giving it a shot. Two weeks later, I found out I would be covering the World Cup.

Most of my spring semester was spent preparing to cover this event and coming to terms with the fact that I would be going out of the country for the first time to take photos of something I could never have dreamed about doing at 22. I felt my passion for sports photography begin in fall of 2025, and spring of 2026 fueled the fire. I am so beyond blessed that at the end of all this prep, I was able to spend three weeks in Monterrey as a World Cup photographer.

This experience taught me a lot, but the most important thing I have learned is how to take a chance on myself. What seemed like a shot in the dark in October became a risk I will never regret taking. I was constantly challenged, but came out a better person and photographer because of it.

I am eternally grateful to @sportsmediauga and @apnews for providing me with the tools I needed to learn, grow and succeed.

This is the end of my coverage for the 2026 World Cup, but it will not be the end of my time in sports coverage. by @addisonnsimmons

I am officially in Monterrey to cover the 2026 World Cup! Before we get matches started, I decided to take a walk around Barrio Antiguo with my camera to see what I could capture. It’s only day one, and I can already tell this experience is going to be amazing.

In fourth grade, I wrote in my diary that my biggest dream was to attend the University of Georgia just so I could be in Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. I had googled where all the best journalists went to college and the answer was pretty apparent to me- I needed to be a Grady dawg.

12 years later I’m graduating with a bachelors degree in journalism from @ugagrady and it still feels like a dream. The professors I had the privilege of learning from and courses that challenged me daily allowed me to find my footing as a journalist and envision a future I am eager to pursue. I am so grateful for this college- for the opportunities it has given me, the people it has allowed me to meet and the countless memories it has helped me create.

What once felt like a far off fantasy is now my reality as I become a Grady alumna with immense pride. There truly is no institution worthy of such loyalty, and no place I would have rather spent the past four years.
