How am I supposed to live life when my whole world just left

Oh mom, you used to call me your best friend and I would brush it off, but it’s true. I loved telling you the tea every day, bringing you home friends last minute, and stressing you out because I didn’t have a plan. I miss your nagging, our movie nights on the couch, and most of all, your laugh. I see you everywhere. In songs, conversations, even that stupid gas station pizza you liked. And sometimes I’ll feel a glimmer of hope thinking I just saw your text notification.

You promised me that you would call me every day in college, to the point where I’m annoyed and I never wanted a phone call so bad. You would tell everyone that you would miss me when I went off, but little did I know I would be missing you. You wanted so badly to see me cheering on the sidelines this September, only now I won’t see you in the stands with that obnoxious big head and chain around your neck.

Words cannot describe how much I miss you, and if I could steal one more hug, I would hold on and never let go. Who else is supposed to give me a pep talk to remind me how to eat an elephant, and play loud music from their phone?

I hope people see me in you. In my mannerisms, the beauty that you gave me, but most importantly your heart. I don’t know how I’m supposed to do all of this without you, but I know you’d be yelling at me to keep going, so I will.
