The Materials Library is so much more than just a room filled with samples!
As the Materials Library intern this semester, one of my goals has been to rethink how this space can serve the School of Interior Architecture. Last week, the library hosted a presentation with Spinneybeck, bringing IARC students into the space to learn more about materials as well as new possibilities for design 🧠. This event was a huge success and is just the beginning of the work I hope to accomplish this semester. Throughout the semester, I’ll be highlighting materials, resources, and ideas that make the Materials Library a resource for IARC students. I’m excited to share more of what the library has to offer and hopefully introduce you to something new along the way. Stay tuned for more material features, discoveries, and a look inside the library! 🧱🎨

Nashville Studio visit #1! Getting to visit our site, The Nashville Arcade, was a great experience and I am excited to continue working with The Arcade, Dryden Studio, and The Nashville Civic Design Center throughout this semester📚. We also visited The Musuem of African American Music as well as NOI’s office, two more meaningful experiences of the visit! taken in Nashville, Tennessee by @addysinteriors

Last month, I got to visit Italy and France! One of my favorite parts was getting to see all of the beautiful architecture! I learned a lot about these places in my architectural history class, and seeing them for myself was amazing. My favorite from class was Palazzo Medici Riccardi (first photo). Learning about the Medici family and how prominent they were in Florence was interesting and I enjoyed getting to build on my prior knowledge of all these places! 🇮🇹🇫🇷✈️

Last month, I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad through the Glorious Gardens Program with The University of Tennessee Division of Global Engagement. This experience brought me to Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands, and allowed me to see how design and architecture work alongside urban ecology and horticulture. Over the 3 week program, I learned how interiors and landscapes work together to influence emotion as well as how humans inhabit space and flow between the two. Getting to learn about how topics outside of Interior Architecture still tie back to and relate to the field was truly interesting and I am excited to carry what I learned into this upcoming semester! A huge thank you to Dr. Andy Pulte and Professor Mike Ross for the knowledge they shared during this experience! by @addysinteriors

Intro to Revit, Adv. Representation 💻
Before and after of our rep final gallery walk! This was our intro to revit and I learned how to work across many different softwares simultaneously. I chose to adapt and simplify my studio project to be more conceptual and representative. This project was a great introduction to Revit and I enjoyed blending my prior knowledge with new concepts! taken in UT College of Architecture and Design by @addysinteriors

The Shape of Waiting 🕰️
Spring 2026, IARC 276 Studio, Professor David Matthews
This past semester, I had the amazing opportunity to adaptively reuse a building in Tokyo, Japan. Within the building, we were tasked with creating an Appalachian museum, izalaya inspired restaurant, Japanese tea room, and a small residence. I chose to explore the concept of time throughout my design, since I found time could transcend across cultures. Within Appalachia, time is spent through careful craft and returning to objects for repair rather than replacement- a practice that is fading away in modern culture. This is similar to Japanese culture where time carries immense value. Time adds value to all that is around us and cannot be replicated in any other way other than by letting the time itself pass. This project challenged me in new ways and I enjoyed learning about each culture more in depth. I also enjoyed getting to entwine elements of the cultures throughout the building through form, material, light, and entry sequences. Proud of the work I created this semester, now it is time for a nap! taken in UT College of Architecture and Design by @addysinteriors

IARC 276: The Shape of Waiting
I am excited to share photos from my final review today! This project pushed me out of my comfort zone, challenged me, and shaped me into a stronger designer. I am so thankful to all of my reviewers today and their feedback as well as thankful for my professor, David Matthews, who challenged me and pushed me to become a stronger, more confident, and more intentional designer! I gained such a global perspective from this studio and now have a deeper appreciation of both Appalachian and Japanese cultures. I will be sharing cataloged items from my project soon🤓✏️💻 taken in UT College of Architecture and Design by @addysinteriors

A super quick analog practice to kick off the semester! I really challenged myself with graphite work and hand modeling for this project. Super happy with the work I produced and I’m excited to jump into some new digital software techniques this semester! ✏️✍️ taken in UT College of Architecture and Design by @addysinteriors

🪢Entwine, IARC 275, Remnants of Memory
I am so excited to share some pieces of my project! Entwine is an adaptive reuse project of the Phillis Wheatley Home for Girls located in the south side of Chicago. Our studio began by conducting intensive research into the surrounding area, women’s history, social movements, and architectural precedents. Based on our research, I chose to design a story telling museum, community kitchen, and intergenerational housing facility. These programs combined with Wheatley’s poetry led me to design the spaces with a ribbon like circulation that acts as an architectural thread; tying together culture and community within the building. Learning about how to make meaningful, positive impacts in the community over the past semester was a truly rewarding experience and I’m eager to carry my knowledge into the future! taken in University of Tennessee, Knoxville by @addysinteriors
