THE POETICS OF COLOR

Color is never neutral or a cultural bystander.

It has shaped how all societies understand power, emotion, value, and identity.

Language reveals color as a cast of characters, we encounter black, white, red, green, blue and gold as markets, lies, alerts, lights, moods, and opportunities respectively.

These characters are not just metaphors, they are cultural structures of grammar and epistemology.

The Poetics of Color explores colors, as living archives of meaning. It reveals how color operates as both language and system.

It invites us to consider that color does not decorate the world, it constructs it!!

SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS -2025

Every once in a while I come across magic warped in a human spirit. Artist, Richardson Ovbiebo @richardsonovbiebo is magic.

I've collected his artworks and sculpture for a decade and a half. In that time I have seen him grow, and blossom, in both his artistic offering and epistemological standing. I'll share more of his work in another post.

He and I had planned an iridescent light sculpture that displays lustrous, rainbow-like colors five years ago. The scale of the sculpture would have been 🔥. The materials costs were 🔥🔥 too, way beyond our budget then.

On my birthday a few days ago, Richardson displayed his magic again by installing SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS in my home.

Please enjoy 🙏🏿

Hi Friends, you are invited to the opening reception of our upcoming exhibition, SUPERIMPOSED: PRINT, MEMORY & MATERIAL ✨

SUPERIMPOSED explores what happens when memory, material, and imagination overlap.

This show brings together five incredible contemporary artists experimenting with mediums and materials within print and edition-making. These artists are translating symbols, layering moments, and reshaping the familiar into something newly alive.

Think of it as a quiet expansion, where fragments become form, and meaning gets renewed, not preserved.

Featuring works by
Ade Adekola
Chukwumeka Anthony
Josh Ike Egesi
Orry Shenjobi
Nkem Okwechime

Opening Reception:
Saturday, Nov. 29
3PM–8PM

On view:
Nov. 29 - Dec. 16, 2025

Closed on Mondays

MÌLÍKÍ, 7B Etim Inyang Crescent., Victoria Island, Lagos

Curated by Ima Ekpo and presented by Fresco Gallery.

Every once in a while i stumble across an artist whose work i am compelled to embrace.

These incredible pieces by Ghanaian artist Fred Oke Mate joined the studio collection in 2008.

They demand attention, commanding you to LOOK and then they reward you by leaving you in a state of enhanced gratitude (for your time, for looking, for their custody and more).

Collecting in multiples provides deeper access to the artists voice and journey.

Each piece have a certain, you know, "visual audacity".

Collectively they stand symbolic of the ebony forest, claimed by the River Volta, and from which their fish-bitten barks originate.

These marks narrate tales of the subaquatic sculptural exploits, charging each piece with a historical and natural provenance.

Please enjoy, chapeaux @fredokomate #africanart #sculpture #volta #ebony #fredokomate by @ade.adekola
