When I had the opportunity to perform a poem on a black sporting icon for @btsport @buzz16_ , I knew that the only person I wanted to write about was Kobe Bryant. Through ‘My Mentality’ I wanted to give you an insight into my world whilst highlighting the G.O.A.T that is Kobe.

If I’m honest, balancing my passions with my degree isn’t the easiest task in the world; however, Kobe’s legacy has taught me that if your talent allows you to shine then nothing will ever take that light away. 💫

Rest In Peace to a Father, a Husband and an inspiration to young black boys all over the world. 🌍

I’ve been dreaming of this very moment for the past five years. Today, it’s finally a reality.

I’ve always wanted to be a light in this world, to make a difference in someone’s day, no matter how small. That desire comes from being surrounded by so much light myself.

The Lord has blessed me with an incredible family and friends who have shaped my intelligence, strengthened my determination, and nurtured my capacity to love.

Becoming a doctor is a privilege that I will never take for granted. Thank you to every single person who has supported, encouraged, prayed for, challenged, and believed in me throughout this journey.

Your impact on my life is immeasurable, and I hope to pay that forward to every patient I have the privilege of caring for.

Facilitating for @upcomingfutureicons . There was something powerful about seeing a room full of young men choose vulnerability, creativity, and honest conversation. Watching them share their stories, challenge themselves, and encourage one another reminded me why spaces like this matter.

Dr Ade Oyejobi is a medical doctor, award-winning poet, spoken word artist, and content creator from South London.

Through poetry, storytelling, and digital media, Ade explores masculinity, family, love, and emotional liberation, inspiring audiences across the UK and beyond. He has collaborated with organisations including BMW, Timberland, GUAP Magazine, the National Literacy Trust, and The Happy Newspaper, with appearances on BT Sport, Together TV, BBC Radio, and BBC 1Xtra.

Through his work, Ade creates spaces for honest conversations around identity, vulnerability, and men’s mental health.

My feature for @theblkbrit 🇬🇧

Last summer I sat in Hyde Park with Claudia (The Guardian) to speak about the my relationship with poetry, medicine, vulnerability and Black British identity. At the time I was a medical student, now, reading this as a newly qualified doctor, it feels even more special.
