For those unawares, the Bosom Sister and I side-quested quickly and indubitably this summer. May I introduce *Adelaide Del'Astaire,* Vaudevillian-Burlesque Extraordinaire ✨ (Ok, maybe that's a bit of a pampering to the name as I've done one student showcase but who knows where the journey leads.) How does one choose ONLY TWENTY pictures/clips? 😭
Dragon Con was chaos, overstimulating, HOT, exhausting, and absolutely went by too fast haha....we came, we con'd. To everyone who crossed my path for two minutes or two hours - just know I was so delighted to see you. The comraderie at con is truly a special thing to be part of.

Stilts. There are people who walk around on stilts. Among 80,000 cosplayers. That is the MOST chaotic decision. If you're wondering, no, I would never! 😂

OMG to take off the wigs and shower at the end of each day was like a fantasy one could only dream of.

Got to hear Sean Astin (truly lovely human from what I could tell) and Lena Heady (tbh, I appreciate her fighting the instinct to curse and still failing most times) speak. Also went to two helpful wig workshops. I shall never braid my hair under a wig again ✋🏼

Vogue. Also, clock the dragons in my hands. Those were my prizes for doing costume bingo. I went hard on costume bingo. It was the best and most overstimulating choice I could have made this weekend 😅

This Roman goddess of a man on the left. Whoever he is, protect him. He is giving so much light to the world and made my day. What a dear.

We got to witness the gathering of the Inflatables and the Miss Congenialities.

Silk Road track performance showcase - it was truly like an adult talent show, technical issues and all. But how beautiful to see people sharing the culture and performing simply because they love it. There was belly dancing, Turkish singing, martial arts, and these guys (quite possibly just the coolest).

TRINKETS!!!!!!

We definitely didn't get stuck on the elevator because we kept pressing the button for the level we were on.......while people on the other side watched and waited trying to go down. In our defense, it *should* be level 1. Not 2. That's incredibly misleading.

We came for the single men...but we stayed for the sisterhood. So in place of a Ren Faire meet-cute story, I instead wooed a princess, got tipsy and ravaged a turkey leg, took in some local torture sights, galavanted with friends, and practiced my future wedding poses with the only men one can trust won't ghost you: statues. All in all, another successful jaunt at the @garenfest with the Bosom Sister & Co 👑🧝🏻‍♀️🍻🍃

POND DAY: A Saga

1. She is ready. She looks cool in her wicker hat, rubber gloves, and SPF 50 shirt. Is she off to excavate bones or clean a pond? The world is her oyster of adventure.

2. A distant memory. Did it really happen? Did she at one point feel that invigorated and hopeful?

3. She's lost track of the hours. Her soul is as dead as that pond. The smile is merely the baring of teeth at the destructive decisions she's made...but there is no turning back now. There is only forward. Or death.

4. DO YOU SEE HOW DEEP THAT POND IS? DO YOU?! This is the moment that she finds her empowerment. If she can do this...if she can immerse herself in that level of geriatric backache and disease-infested pond gunk...THEN SHE CAN SURVIVE THE APOCALYPSE.

5. And now she waits for the pond to refill. She will wait longer than she expects. She has an incredible skill for underestimating Every. Single. Project.

6. FISH. 4.5 hours, 21 fish, and she lost track of how many tadpoles later. DO YOU SEE THE FISH. You can see them in the water. It's crazy.

7. DO YOU SEE THE DISEASE-INFESTED GUNK. She will guarantee it's way more than it looks.

8. The wonderful neighbor (we'll call her "V") took great pity and cooked her steak! Brazilian steak! And then V volunteered her two middle school boys to help next time the pond needs cleaning! Steak and cheap child labor! What did she do to deserve such kindness?! (Truly though, big fan of V. That steak was effin delicious.)

9. And after a long day she heated up some casado...and drank. And drank from a goblet. And forgot how strong an adult juice box could be. But she didn't care. After three years, she cleaned the mutherf*kin pond.

End saga. Part II coming in 2029.

Somehow it never ceases to amaze me how much can happen in a year. Last Easter I was in such a different place. Not a bad place, as I had begun my "joy journey," but a place that would require a lot of challenging and sometimes incredibly painful growth to get to where I am now. I had just started going back to church...and I'd say it was just in time, except I don't believe in chance. Rather, I call it God's design...and I am incredibly grateful for that. I spent a year showing up to church, quite often crying at some point, and never singing.

Today, my heart was lighter, unfurling like that of a flower that has finally sprung from the damp and darkness of the dirt. Some things need to grow before they see the sun. But that doesn't mean the sun ever stopped shining. After a year of not singing, I had finally found my voice and it felt so good. I can't wait to see what else is in store for 2026! Happy Easter - thank God for Jesus, faith, and the kindness of others. If you ever want to join me, there's room for all 🌱
