my ONLY label of importance: “Child of God”

As a small group leader on this trip, my goal was to be there for my girls. Show up, help, listen, support. I expected to just give to them. But in reality, THEY were giving to ME. Through watching them talking with one another, watching them branch out, watching them praise the Lord with ALL their heart, watching them just ACHE to know more about God. But also from the lesson given by Brice Thurman on night 3.

As someone who has struggled with labels for most of my life, this message hit close to home. I was so used to being labeled by others that I let it dictate my life and bring me down. I let it CONSUME me. I let others label me, which then led to me believing those labels to be true about myself. Labels like: unworthy, ugly, weird, annoying, unloveable, stupid, NOT ENOUGH. Labels can HURT. But there is one label that can HEAL. And that label is “Child of God”. Because the truth is, the labels given to us by the world will have no meaning or worth when we are standing face to face with the gates of Heaven. They will be meaningless when God looks at you and says He has been awaiting your arrival. Because that’s the truth. God is always awaiting our arrival. He wants us to come home to Him. He wants us to come be His child. He wants US!
