We don’t talk enough about how expensive “starting over” can be. Between rent, groceries, transportation, winter clothing, phone bills, and trying to settle into a brand-new country, it’s easy to feel like you’re spending money every single day. One thing I’ve learned since moving to Canada is that knowing where to look can save you hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars over time. Canada has so many newcomer-friendly programs and resources that most people don’t find out about until months (or years) after they’ve arrived. The problem isn’t that these resources don’t exist, it’s that nobody hands you a newcomer manual at the airport. Before paying for something, ask yourself: * Is there a newcomer offer available? * Is there a free community resource I can use instead? * Am I eligible for any government or newcomer programs? * Have I asked questions and done my research? Starting over doesn’t mean you have to do it the hard or expensive way. One of the biggest mistakes newcomers make is trying to figure everything out alone. Please don’t. Ask questions, get connected to your local community, and take advantage of the resources that were created for people exactly like you. Save this post.! you may not need every resource today, but chances are you’ll need one of them sooner than you think. #adeolalately #immigrantlife #nigerianincanada #immigrantmom #canadaimmigration by @adeolalately
Buying your first car in Canada is exciting, until you realize there’s a lot more to consider than the price tag. One of the biggest lessons I learned as a newcomer was to slow down and understand the full cost before signing anything. The car payment is only one piece of the puzzle. Interest. Insurance. Gas. Maintenance. And yes, even the fine print. 👀 Please, don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t understand a fee, policy or term, ask them to explain it before you sign. You’re not being difficult. You’re protecting your money. Save this if your first car in Canada is still on your vision board. 🤍 And send it to the newcomer who is currently car shopping. #adeolalately #immigrantlife #nigerianincanada #immigrantmom by @adeolalately

One year ago today, I landed in Canada with my son and a lot of prayers. 🇨🇦 I’m not here because I’m strong. I’m here because God placed the right people in my corner. The friends who housed us, the uncles who never stopped checking in, the ones who sent gifts, shared resources and called to ask how we were holding up. If you’re a mom thinking about moving and wondering how you’ll survive, I hope this reminds you that you don’t have to do it alone. Find your people, and let them love you. #adeolalately by @adeolalately

My loyal story viewers know I tried to get protein shakes, now I’m exploring other options, we’re trying to get some nourishing smoothies into the routine! Made this protein smoothie with my @ninjakitchencanada blender, and the one-touch blending makes it so easy to blend my frozen fruits into a smooth drink. Now, the real challenge is consistency. 😂🤞🏾 Let’s see if I can keep up with this new ritual! 🫣 Click the link in my bio to Shop 🔗 #adeolalately #NinjaPartner #NinjaKitchen #ProteinSmoothie #immigrantlife by @adeolalately

Let’s talk about your heating bill during a Canadian winter! 💸🥶 Because staying warm is one thing… paying to stay warm is another story. 😭😂 A few things to keep in mind as temperatures drop: 🌡️ Keep your thermostat at a comfortable, reasonable temperature. 🏠 If you use central heating, confirm that your unit is warm enough on cold Autumn days, if not notify your apartment managers before it gets really cold. 🪟 Check for drafts and avoid blocking heating vents. 🔦 Have a small emergency kit ready in case of a power outage. Save this for your first Canadian winter, and follow @adeolalately for more practical tips for navigating life in Canada! ❤️ OGs, what surprised you most about winter costs when you first arrived in Canada? 👇🏾 #adeolalately #immigrantlife #nigerianincanada #winterprep CanadianWinter NewToCanada LifeInCanada WinterTips OntarioLife NewcomersToCanada by @adeolalately
