Because the trauma or wound starts to heal when you have courage and learn how to feel the very thing that hijacks you when it matters the most..
in relationships with your kids, your family, it might even show up at work.
The emotions are not the problem. The problem is that you were never taught how to feel them until they release, until they heal. by @adhdcoachessydney

We learn so much about red flags that we forget what safe is supposed to feel like.
It’s quieter than you’d think.
Safe love doesn’t spike your heart rate. It lowers it. Your shoulders drop. Your thoughts slow down. You stop editing yourself mid sentence.
If you’ve only known the anxious kind, calm can feel boring at first. That’s not a lack of chemistry. That’s your nervous system learning it can rest.
And if it’s still hard to tell the difference, that’s okay, a therapist can help you sort through it gently. by @adhdcoachessydney

Some abuse is obvious because it terrifies you immediately. Someone breaking your belongings, blocking the door when you try to leave, or recording your emotional breakdown to use against you later.

But calling you names like B*tch, loser, stupid, or dumb is also abuse. Screaming just inches away from your face until you physically shrink in fear is abuse.

Pointing a knife or another sharp object at you, even if they never actually hurt you with it, is a serious form of intimidation.

You do not have to be physically assaulted for someone’s behavior to make you feel unsafe in your own home.

Abuse is also being seriously sick and realizing that the person you depend on refuses to take you to the hospital. It is watching them scroll through their phone while you are lying in bed suffering.

It is being married to someone for years and still having no idea about their bank accounts, debts, or finances that affect your future, while they make reckless purchases without even informing you.

It is crying your heart out while they sit comfortably beside you, completely indifferent to the pain they have caused.

And sometimes abuse shows up in situations that other people would never think twice about.
You are pregnant, injured, exhausted, or carrying your child along with heavy luggage, and they keep walking ahead without even looking back.
They know you are struggling, but helping you never crosses their mind.
Over time, these repeated experiences teach you that you cannot depend on them, even during your most vulnerable moments.

Abuse is not just about someone physically hurting you. It is also about someone repeatedly making you feel unsafe, unsupported, humiliated, and completely alone in a relationship where you should have felt loved and protected. by @adhdcoachessydney

Ever been triggered by something your partner says and found yourself getting defensive or shutting down?
Sometimes, their words touch a younger part of you that still carries hurt from the past.

A protective part then steps in, perhaps by getting angry or pulling away, to stop you feeling that pain again.
IFS invites us to get curious about these parts, understand what they’re afraid of and help them see they don’t have to work so hard to protect us.

In this clip from TRAUMALITY, @dr.richardschwartz, founder of Internal Family Systems (IFS), introduces the different parts of us.

@the.holistic.psychologist Emotionally immature... more awakenthroughlove Well said. I learned this one the hard way. When someone repeatedly reacts defensively to your feelings, you can slowly start editing yourself without even realizing it. You rehearse conversations, soften your needs [...] by @adhdcoachessydney
