Keputran Market.

This market runs at night and early morning. By the time it gets close to midday, it’s already shutting down and going quiet. That’s exactly when I like to be there. The vegetable sellers are gone, the crowd is gone — just the structure left behind. Dark corners, one figure caught in the light, and a lot of empty space. That’s the game.

The Explorer.

That morning walking with HSC ( my favourite photography club ) I spotted this scene and thought — this needs the right person. Then I looked back and saw my friend with his backpack and camera. Perfect. He walked right into it without knowing. Tangled wires everywhere, shadows cutting across a green wall, blue sky above. Felt less like a street and more like a jungle. An urban jungle. He looked like he was deep in it.

Beams

Without light, everything is just dark. That’s obvious. But when it hits like this — beams shooting out in every direction, people looking up, some with their hands raised — it stops being just light. It becomes energy. Everyone gathered for the same moment, all looking at the same thing. That doesn’t happen every day.

Nail.

Sometimes there’s no one around. And that’s fine. Shadow, light, and a line — still the same game for me. Even a nail on a cracked wall can be interesting if the light hits it right. Shot on Cinestill 400D. The colors kind of do their own thing with this film and I like that.

Trapped in another world.

What if your shadow became you? And you got stuck in its world instead. You scream but there’s no way out. Everything is upside down. Nobody hears you.

That was my thought after dinner. Full stomach, weird imagination. This is what happens when I eat too much.

.Could be just friends.

Two young people walking together. I have no idea if they’re actually a couple or not. But let’s just say they were on a Saturday night date — sounds more fun that way. I let them be. I just used the moment as they walked through — turned it into a black and white with a bit of framing technique. I placed them roughly in the middle so the eye knows where to go, because the frame around them was already a bit complicated on its own. Sometimes the subject just needs to be easy to find.

Parenting

The itinerary changes when you become a parent. You go where the kid wants. You slow down when they slow down. You push the stroller through places you wouldn’t normally stop. And somehow that’s fine. That’s just what it is now. Just be happy and enjoy.

The Corridor

Backlit situations are my favourite, the frame just locks in. Dead center composition, which I don’t use that often, but sometimes the architecture tells you exactly where to put the subject. ✔️

Swallowed by 24mm.
.
.
First time shooting with a 24mm and honestly it felt different straight away. The way it sees things — wider, a bit more aggressive, pulls you closer to whatever’s in front of you. Framing gets tricky but that’s kind of the fun part. Not better or worse than my 28mm, just a different way of looking at the same street. This came out of that first roll. Still figuring it out.
