At the Premier League clash between West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth, I was fully focused on the match… until the big screen zoomed in on me celebrating our participants and coaches progress and achievement like we’d just won the title. For a solid 10 seconds, I wasn’t a fan in the stands. absolutely not ready for 60,000 people to witness my dancing smile ⚽⚒️😂

نجلس متجاورين في الطائرة، عائلتي قريبة إلى قلبي كما السماء قريبة من نوافذنا، حين باغتنا الارتجاج المفاجئ، وصوتٌ خافتٌ حمل في داخله خوفًا مكتومًا. محركٌ واحد تعطل، والقلق تسلل إلى الوجوه، بينما كان قلبي موزعًا بين يديّ أطفالي ونبضٍ متسارع لا يريد أن يفضح ضعفه. بصوتٍ ثابت، أعلن القبطان أننا سنهبط اضطرارًا في البرتغال، فشعرت بثقل اللحظة، ذلك النوع من الثقل الذي يجعلك تراجع حياتك كلها في ثانية واحدة.
وفي التوقيت ذاته، وعلى أرضٍ أخرى، كان هاتفي يضيء برسائل لا تشبه الخوف الذي أعيشه: فريقي في العمل يتوجني أفضل مدرب للسنة. مفارقة قاسية وجميلة في آنٍ واحد؛ بين سماءٍ تختبر هشاشتي وإنجازٍ يثبت صلابتي. هناك، كنت قائدًا يُحتفى به، وهنا، كنت أبًا يتمسك بالطمأنينة كي لا تنهار. بين الهبوط الاضطراري والتتويج، تعلمت أن الحياة لا تمنحنا شعورًا واحدًا في المرة الواحدة، بل تمزج الخوف بالفخر، والقلق بالامتنان، لتذكرنا أن النجاة إنجاز، وأن الإنجاز نعمة، وكلاهما يستحق أن نعيشهم بالكامل #الحمدلله_دائما_وابدا #مدرب #السنة في ويسط هام

We were sitting close together on the plane, my family as close to my heart as the sky was to the windows, when a sudden shudder broke the calm. One engine had failed, and fear quietly spread across every face. My heart wavered between holding my children’s hands and steadying a pulse that refused to show its weakness. In a composed voice, the captain announced an emergency landing in Portugal, a moment heavy enough to make a lifetime pass in a second.
At that very same time, on another stretch of earth, my phone lit up with messages of a different kind: my West Ham was naming me Coach of the Year 2025. A beautiful contradiction, between a sky testing my fragility and an achievement affirming my strength. There, I was a leader being celebrated; here, a father holding calm together. Don’t rely on networking to cover gaps in your ability.
Yes, networking can open doors, but mastery is what keeps them open.
Focus on becoming so skilled, so consistent, and so uniquely YOU that people have no choice but to take notice.

Working across multiple countries and continents has taught me this:
Exposure to diverse football cultures, different coaching philosophies, playing styles, game models, development languages, and varied work ethics builds a mindset that no classroom or book can teach.
Adversity refines your character.
Diversity sharpens your perspective.
Experience develops your edge.
The coaches who stand out aren’t the ones trying to fit in. They’re the ones who bring authenticity, insight, and a unique level of skill shaped by a global journey.
Don’t aim to be a generic coach. Find your gift and master it.
Aim to be the coach whose work speaks for itself.
Skill is the foundation. Networking is the amplifier.
When you master both, opportunities follow

I'm excited to share that @adilglia and I will lead the U18's Female Performance Squad @whufoundation this season. We met in 2021 working for the Emerging Hammers programme for the boys Academy and did our UEFA B together with the PFA.
