Who lives less than 10 miles from the @santaclarawines trail and has yet to visit any wineries 🫣?

I set out to visit @twicetyger new tasting room in Gilroy, CA, expecting to just try a glass of wine and explore my backyard 🍷. I had no expectations and didn’t even research their vineyard before visiting.

Safe to say their wines exceeded my expectations. They have an impressive array of wines, and it was so difficult to pick a favorite. They grow Roussanne, Petite Verdot, Petite Sirah, Montepulciano, and Cabernet Sauvignon. A little birdy told me they’re working on their first sparkling wine 🍾!

I’ve found a spot I’ll be visiting frequently 🤌🏾. If you’re in Gilroy/Morgan Hill, make it a point to stop by. All my Bay Area folks, we aren’t that far from you, so no excuses. by @admirevine

Where have you been, Susan?

That’s a great question. And at times I find myself avoiding this account because I know it’s been neglected. Not because I’ve stopped loving wine, but because life happened.

A few years ago, I started a job in marketing with Big Law and that meant saying goodbye to social media. I dismantled my account and lived a more secluded, private life. No more sharing wine, no more partnerships. Just enjoying things for myself.

Well, life happens, and I’m no longer in that career field. I thought yes! This means I can share my joy in wine again! But in that time, the landscape had changed. Instagram is different, people I once knew were gone, and I returned to a new world.

I’ve thought to myself maybe I just need to delete this account and start something new. My life includes more than just wine now. I’m not the same Susan I was years ago. I’ve evolved.

But I figured if you’re still here with me, then you’re here for me, my thoughts, my palate, my insights. So thank you for sticking with me on this ride. I haven’t given up on you. I’ll be more present, and you may see other kinds of content as I navigate and find my voice again. by @admirevine

If you’re looking for a place to explore exceptional wines, Vintage Wine Merchant is it.

@vintagewinesr is located in Santana Row, they actually have two locations
✨the wine shop near the theater
✨the wine bar in the middle of the row.

Trust me as a former employee when I say every wine on the menu is meticulously selected and every person on staff knows their wine.

It’s the best place to try new pours or book a curated tasting. Not to mention, they’ve been recognized by @Wine_Spectator for their outstanding wine program. 🍷 by @admirevine

Grabbed the 2024 Luli Pinot Noir from Santa Lucia Highlands from Costco and it’s exactly the kind of bottle that makes me remember why I like Pinot Noir. It shows up bold red and black fruit on the nose, then softens into strawberry 🍓 and cherry 🍒 on the palate.

@luli_wines is one of those labels where you basically can’t go wrong. Hand sorted fruit, native yeast fermentation, and vineyards right in the Santa Lucia Highlands. It’s an easy drinking everyday wine 🍷

If you see this bottle, grab it and go about your day. One less decision to make 👌🏾 by @admirevine

Look, I love talking about wine, but you don’t have to sit through my 4 minute video, here’s what you need to know.

This Giovanni & Giulia Sauvignon Blanc from @pedroncelliwine is delicious and incredibly approachable. Pedroncelli is a family owned winery in Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma, established in 1927. Nearly 100 years of winemaking. Simply said they know what they’re doing. Best part is their winery is open to visit if you find yourself in Sonoma. I've added them to my list!

Expect flavors of🍍🍊🍋🍈 with bright, bold acidity and a medium to long finish.
I found this bottle at Trader Joe's for under $20, so easy to enjoy during the week or a fun wine to bring with you on your next outing.

Some places just feel like they were made for you. 🍷📚

@booksocietysocial in Berkeley’s Elmwood neighborhood is exactly that kind of place. A wine and book shop where you can sip while hunting for your next great read.

I’d had this spot on my list for a while, and as someone coming all the way from the South Bay, let me just say....completely worth the drive.

The space hits that perfect balance of intimate but not cramped.

Oh hello there, this Sunday afternoon I wanted to share this delightful blend ☺️

I’m already familiar with Gamay, a red grape variety from France.

However, Grolleau is not a grape you're likely to find during your weekly wine run. Originating in the Loire Valley, it is one of the region's most widely planted red grape varieties, alongside Gamay and Cabernet Franc.

Grolleau is a dark, almost black skinned grape with thin skins that contribute herbaceous and cherry notes. These characteristics make it particularly well-suited for rosé production.

That makes it easy to see why François Chidaine chose to produce this Grolleau and Gamay rosé. It's the perfect summer wine. Fresh, vibrant, and best enjoyed well chilled. Found at @ancoravino_morganhill if you're interested in sipping along with me. by @admirevine

Who doesn’t love a glass of bubbly?!?! I’m not stoping to find the answer but these days there’s an endless supply for champagne glasses to suit your fancy.

Here are the top 3 styles of glassware you will come across:

✨🍾 Coupe; these look cute but honestly feel free to skip this aesthetically please glass for your champagne. Why? The wipe rim and shallow bowl allows your bubbles to dissolve quickly. Not to mention it warms up your champagne faster. Keep the coupe glasses for fun cocktails drinks instead!

✨🍾Flute; there are various different styles of Champagne flutes. Classic, stemless, and trumpet usually with a tall and slender bowl. This style is actually beneficial when you drink champagne because the slender bowl helps to preserves your bubbly!

✨🍾 Tulip; 🌷 Long and arrow with an oval shape bowl this is my personal favorite. This gives you the same benefits as the flute style of Champagne glass.

✨Bringing you a quick glimpse into a not-so-hidden woman-owned wine shop in Palo Alto. @vinvinopaloalto has been in Palo Alto for years, and you can see why. Their wine selection is pretty impressive, prioritizing quality and uniqueness over quantity.

You can sip wine from their tasting menu while you shop, which I suggest. On this particular trip, I selected a glass of @weingut.hirsch 2020 Ried Gaisberg Grüner Veltliner, which held the characteristics of spice that Grüner Veltliner is known for.

✨I pleasantly walked away with a bottle of @domaineweinbach and @ravineswines, which I’ll share later 😉.

✨If you don’t know by now, I love buying wine for the smaller shops, which will be added to my rotation.

How do you select a wine club?

There are many wine clubs to select from these days. Either online, at a restaurant, at a retailer, or even membership at a winery. But how do you choose the right one?

1. Look beyond the wine 🍷! What other benefits do you get by being a member? Exclusive member-only tasting or even discounts every time you shop? A detailed write-up of your monthly selects and food pairing options? Complementary wine glasses when you’re in the shop?

2. What’s the pickup situation? Can they hold your bottles until you can pick them up? Can they ship them or skip a month if you’re traveling? If you’re close to the shop, swinging by after work is easy. If you’re an hour or more drive away, sometimes you get busy & can’t make your way there. What happens to your wine?

3. Do you like the place? Ha! Seems obvious, but do you enjoy visiting the shop or the winery? How are the vibes? Is the customer service sound? If not, I wouldn’t bother; otherwise, your wine club would begin to feel like a chore! If you love the place, take the step and join.

4. Are you getting a good value? If you see previous months and notice the value of the wine doesn’t add up month after month, maybe it’s best to skip their club and look elsewhere!

5. Surprise!!!! One great thing about joining a wine club is receiving bottles you wouldn’t usually purchase. A sparkling wine from South Africa? An English Chardonnay? Umm, yes, please. Wine clubs are a great way to taste outside your comfort zone.

iChina Happy Hour!

I don’t know why I’ve ignored happy hours for so long. In taking advantage of drinks and small bites, I came to check out @ichinarestaurant.

First on the lineup was The Moon Rabbit, made with botanist gin, plum wine, Ming River baijiu, tarragon, and honeydew, paired with their pork dumplings with a delectable peanut sauce 😋.

Next up was Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings. These were some of the tiniest wings. But honestly, I’m not mad at it. It is perfect for a quick bite and doesn’t leave you stuffed paired with the Lost Traveler with tequila, blue agave, plum wine, and creme de cassis.
