Lagos is a beautiful bustling metropolis like no other. It’s vibrant, busy and intense. It’s that place I go to renew my hustle mentality and rekindle the fire within. Nobody hustles like Lagosians.

The Eyo masquerades perform during the Eyo festival which is unique to Lagos. It is usually held in honour of a chief or an elder of a ruling family or an Oba, who had died. It may also be held when a new head of an Iga (palace) or a new Oba is installed. They are characteristically dressed in white and very synonymous with the city of Lagos.

Like most masquerades in Yoruba culture they represent the spirits of the ancestors. The Eyo festival may be held in honour of a chief or an elder of a ruling family or an Oba, who had died. It may also be held when a new head of an Iga (palace) or a new Oba is installed.

The Festival, otherwise known as the Adamu Orisha Play, is a staple of the Yoruba cultural heritage of Lagos. The Eyo, consider are Guardians of Lagos. The images are an interpretation of the Eyo, the vibrancy and power and how they occupy space in Lagos.
