If there’s one thing that I love most about having worked for @juneshineco for the past handful of years, it’s the people the brand has brought into my world. @victorbernard0 is one of those people. A week ago, he and his wife Johnni were in a horrific car accident. The kind most don’t walk away from. Thankfully, they both survived. Victor had to be airlifted out and Johnni transported by ambulance. They’ve been in the ICU since, requiring multiple emergency surgeries and facing a long road to recovery. Over the years, I’ve gotten to know Victor in so many beautiful ways. Quite literally the warmest human ever. Giver of the biggest hugs and laughs. The kind of guy who is always happy to see you and vice versa. Someone that will literally lift you up and crack your back perfectly just because he thought ya might need some loosening up... He also just so happens to be one of the most stylish and gifted surfers on the planet. Some of my favorite photos I’ve shot in recent years have Victor in them— and that’s not by accident. His signature flow of stoke, selflessness and generosity is second to none. Time to rally and return the love. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with Victor & Johnni’s medical bills and living expenses while they focus on making their full recoveries. LIVE LIKE A LEGEND // Where passionate pursuits start and stop is beyond me. Work. Play. Surf. Stage. I’ve never been good at keeping these things siloed. The older I get, the more I’ve found that when things you love naturally overlap good things can happen. This is just one of them… Couldn’t be more stoked—and grateful for the opportunity—to document & direct a new series for @drinkwillies. Today, our first episode debuts featuring one of my favorite people on the planet, @donavon_frankenreiter. We followed the mustachioed maestro on tour and witnessed him taking pages out of the playbooks of the greats. THE CHANNEL OF BONES // hard to believe it’d been a full year since our last adventure across the Kaiwi channel. Felt so wild to be back on board, bobbing in the brine, and shouting on my other mother brother. Even more surreal to think that @kenny_kaneko and I used to dream about trips like these as groms… That’s the real “time flies” feeling. And while we spend most of our time in distant time zones, there’s really nothing quite like linking up to push a few limits, snap a few visions, and shepeard sea-soaked stoke with someone you’ve grown up with. Congrats, Kenny, on completing another Molokai to Oahu mission like only so few can do. 9 down—and a 10th already on the horizion. Big love to the young buck @kaisei__0119 for a stellar showing. At just 16 years old, safe to say he’s doing what our former selves would’ve simply laughed at… The future is bright. The fun comes full circle. So does the gratitude. when the divine aligns // hard to put into words just how much joy was juiced in just a few days. all thanks to surfing and it’s infinite interconnectedness. pretty wild what bobbing around in the brine can actually do… such a simple (often silly, selfish) act, but somehow it simultaneously serves as the glue that bonds friends to the fountain of youth, turns heroes into homies, and—whether you ride a board, click cameras, or a push a pen—expands the perception of what is possible. this last week has been a perfect reminder of that power: warm water, less crowds, fun waves, and… two of surfing’s most gifted and dedicated storytellers @thomascampbellart and @taylorsteele pulling together their respective real world magic with the debut of YI-WO and the @solentosurffestival. The former being an avant-garde, analog adventure 11 years in the making and latter serving as surfing’s present-day, big screen dream springboard. So grateful to have gotten to play temporary local and enjoy both events in the best of company. Literally camping out to nerd out. So many friends, mentors, and influences in the same places at the same times, all soundtracked by a continuous chorus of laughs, hoots, yews and cheeeeeehoos. voice? torched. shoulders? dead. brain? buzzing. heart? full. I need a nap, an exotic surf trip and a rewind button to do that all over again. by @admwlkr
