Su Péri Film (2026)
Final VFX Project for @nyfakz

Over 2500 years ago, non-human beings called Peri originated in Persian mythology and spread all across Central Asian and Turkic folklore.

Winged creatures of immense beauty who live in societies similar to humans, but their homeland is unreachable for mortals.

Su Peri (Water Peri) are peri who guard lakes, rivers, and springs. In Kazakh tales, they are called “swan maidens” as they shed their feathers to bathe in human waters.

If they take an interest in humans, they can lure them into the water or abduct them by casting psychological illusions and disappearing as if it never happened.

.

This project took me a semester to storyboard, model, assemble, animate, film, key, compose, and edit. Due to the time constraints it had been cut to this version although my initial idea was more ambitious.

Nevertheless, I'm extremely proud of this turned out given the fact that I started properly learning 3D animation and VFX pipeline 9 months ago.

I really wanted to incorporate some Central Asian mythology into my works and this time I focused on Su Peri, one of my favourite beings in our folklore.

This film visualises a common myth or a story that can be seen across all Turkic fairytales, family legends, and documented myths: A young batyr (warrior) discovers beautiful Su Peri bathing in the lake/river.

The ending of this encounter varies depending on the story. Sometimes a man steals her wings, making her stay in human form and marry him. Sometimes a man is wounded and she heals him, marries him and gives birth to a child. Sometimes she leaves, sometimes she stays.

Thank you for everyone who was involved in this project. You're the best.
