Chapter 3: Moving Forward 💭💕

This chapter is about overcoming… and stepping fully into the woman I was becoming all along.

There were moments I didn’t know how I would make it balancing life, school, and watching my mom fight with a strength that reshaped me. But I kept going. I had to.
Because this journey was never just mine.

Having my mom and dad here, captured in this moment, means everything. They are my foundation. My reason. My reminder that strength runs through me.

At University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, I didn’t just earn a degree,I rose to the challenge. Through every sacrifice, every quiet moment where I chose to keep going.

And now, I step into what’s next.

This summer, I’ll begin my journey toward my Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at South College walking into a future I once had to fight to see for myself.

I am no longer just becoming…

I am emerging..stronger, fearless, and ready to conquer everything meant for me.

This isn’t the end.

This is me, stepping fully into who I am. 🎓🥂

Chapter 2 : The Becoming 💭💕

Thank you to the Center for Student Leadership, Engagement, and Community at UTC for not only recognizing me as your 2023 Homecoming Queen, but for trusting me to continue leading and serving students across campus. Being given the opportunity to serve as the Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement for the past two years has truly been an honor and a blessing that has allowed me to pursue my master’s degree debt-free.

This experience has meant more to me than words can fully express. To the Homecoming and Student Engagement Events team, thank you for trusting me, supporting me, and allowing me to lead alongside such an incredible group. I am so proud of everything we’ve accomplished together.

UTC will always have a special place in my heart 💙💛!

Chapter 1 : The Reflection 💭💕

It all started with Ladies of Gold… a space that saw something in me before I fully saw it in myself.

From there, I found my way to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and that’s where everything began to shift. Not just academically, but personally.

They didn’t just welcome me in… they refined me. They challenged me, poured into me, and held me accountable to a standard of womanhood.

UTC not only shaped me academically, but these spaces gave me self transformation. They taught me how to carry myself, how to lead, how to stand firm in who I am even when I was still trying to figure that out.

This reflection holds the girl I was when I arrived… and the woman these experiences helped shape. 💐

Dear UTC,

From the very beginning, you loved me before I fully knew how to love myself in this process. You embraced my growth, my uncertainty, my ambition, and every version of me in between. You gave me space to discover who I was becoming, while constantly reminding me of who I already was.

These years were more than classes, exams, and long nights they were moments that shaped me. I walked in pursuing a Bachelor’s in Health and Human Performance, with minors in Nutrition and Psychology, just trying to find my place. I’m walking away with not only that degree, but also a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Chronic Disease… and a deeper understanding of purpose, resilience, and strength.

But what makes this journey even more meaningful is everything that wasn’t seen.

While I was chasing these dreams, I was also navigating one of the hardest seasons of my life, watching my mom fight her battle with cancer. Showing up for her, while still showing up for myself, wasn’t easy. There were days I felt stretched thin, moments I wanted to give up, and nights filled with worry. But somehow, through it all, I kept going.

It wasn’t just about being celebrated in the good moments it was about being held together in the hard ones. It was about choosing to keep going even when life didn’t slow down. It was about having grace for myself, for the process, and for the timing of everything.

UTC, you didn’t just educate me; you carried me. You allowed me to grow through every challenge and still come out stronger, softer, and more grounded in who I am.

To my family, my village, and especially my mom—this is for you. Your strength became my strength. Your fight gave me even more reason to keep pushing.

So today, I don’t just celebrate degrees.

I celebrate endurance.
I celebrate faith.
I celebrate becoming.

Thank you for loving me through it all.

This journey asked more of me than I ever expected. There were moments I felt alone, moments I cried, and moments I didn’t know how I was going to make it but I kept going.

To my parents, thank you for never giving up on me and for stepping up in the moments I needed it most. Thank you for your love, your sacrifices, and for being there for me even when times felt lonely. I am who I am because of you.

And most importantly, thank you God! For opening doors I didn’t even know were meant for me, for covering me, and for wiping my tears on my toughest days.

This is more than a degree. This is resilience, growth, and answered prayers.
