A new interview is now live!

For a while now, I’ve been talking about the importance of motion systems, but I’ve never sat down with someone whose day-to-day business is making these systems flexible for big clients in need of multiple formats. That changes with one of the best motion designers I know: Adrián Moran.

Based in Barcelona, Adrián is a senior freelance 2D animator with more than a decade of experience creating work for global brands such as Google, Apple, and National Geographic, as well as leading studios including Buck, SiblingRivalry, and FutureDeluxe. In our interview, we talk about Adrián’s approach to animation, the role of simple shapes and bold colors in visual storytelling, and why motion design can be both expressive and foundational.

Adrián will also be leading a beginner-friendly Cavalry workshop at the School of Systems, created especially for the Flexible Visual Systems community. The workshop introduces a procedural approach to motion, helping designers build smart, scalable animations from the ground up.

We discuss what makes Cavalry such a strong fit for system designers—and how to keep procedural motion feeling playful, expressive, and alive.

PAU-D Ed.22 - Diseñar en movimiento: Tres miradas, una disciplina viva

En nuestra última edición tuvimos el enorme placer de contar con tres motion designers: @joselorenzo.studio, @adrianmorantv y @hey.mau que nos condujeron por cómo cada uno ha forjado su camino y desarrollado su estilo a lo largo de los años de carrera.

De Jose aprendimos que el movimiento es una poderosa herramienta narrativa, capaz de traducir ideas complejas en historias claras, sensibles y profundamente humanas.

Adrián nos enseñó que la simplicidad visual y la creatividad pueden comunicar fuerza, emoción y universalidad, y que rodearse de personas talentosas es clave para hacer crecer cualquier proyecto.

Y con Mauricio vimos cómo el motion design trasciende la pantalla para convertirse en experiencia, espacio y atmósfera, activando los sentidos y generando nuevas formas de conexión con el público.

#PAU-D Ed. 22 - Diseñar en movimiento: Tres miradas, una disciplina viva.

El motion design se ha convertido en un lenguaje que narra ideas, despierta emociones y transforma espacios.

En esta edición y en un formato distinto al habitual, reunimos a tres diseñadores que desde distintos caminos compartirán su visión con esta disciplina:

@joselorenzo.studio es animador, motion designer y director de Arte. Su visión aporta la mirada narrativa y conceptual: con más de 20 años animando historias para marcas como Apple o Facebook, y medios como The New York Times o The New Yorker, ha demostrado que el movimiento puede sintetizar ideas complejas con claridad y, a la vez, sensibilidad.

@adrianmorantv representa la potencia visual contemporánea: formas simples, colores vibrantes y una comunicación directa que ha conectado con marcas globales como Google, Apple o Meta, y estudios de referencia internacional.

@hey.mau, Mauricio es comunicador visual, motion designer y director de Arte que en cada proyecto lleva la animación más allá de la pantalla. Creando experiencias inmersivas, museográficas y sensoriales, donde el movimiento se convierte en entorno, atmósfera y vivencia.

Las tres visiones muestran cómo el motion design evoluciona y se expande; desde la narrativa editorial, hasta los espacios inmersivos y la cultura visual digital.

A few weeks ago I've had the honor to speak with @daniel.shiffman about his amazing reissue of #thenatureofcode, a book that I have used when I've learned to program many years ago. the new version is a complete overhaul with new chapters and all code ported to Javascript. What if a jelly bean had a six pack?
Fable asked me to animate these Illustrations from the really talented @ameliac.life, and I had to do it.
