Mamawe2026🎉

We firstly thank our ancestors for the opening of doors and forming of truthful creative collaborations✨

Mamawe 2026 felt truly amazing with visible support to our beautiful dance community.

Mamawe has been running since 2013, each edition taking us on unique journeys but 2026 felt special with a rare purity to it.
We intended to embody joy whilst understanding that we must also create a safe space for our friends/students to exist and just be.

A space where everyone can understand that we move together, rebuild communities while being kind to ourselves individually.

We thank all that have joined Mamawe 2026 and we look forward to continuing this magical dance journey with you.
Axé Mamawe!

Founded and organised by @mulembasdafricadance forming a beautiful 2026 team with @adrianooliveiradanza and @joanaperes__ .
The community came together and we were supported by @capoeira_senzala_sheffield, the wonderful @livinginsheffield and @stevecollinsonrivers.

Obrigada @devon.m.francis for sharing space with us through movement and through your unique voice.

I want to thank these independent creatives for understanding the challenges and reminding me that there's nothing like true community spirit. More photos and moments to come!

We have more for you Sheffield, we will be back soon enough. 1🫶🏾 by @adrianooliveiradanza

One Love filling the road. ❤️💛💚

@reggaechoir voices over Dendê drums, a special snap from the legendary @paimmarivaldo , children jamming, agbê section in pure flow, and bodies answering every beat — @hawahsambafro & AKOWMI, @rosariagracia ’s Baianas from Brighton, and @adrianooliveiradanza Afro-contemporary section.

Bahia meets Jamaica. Samba-reggae meets reggae. Voices meet drums, dance meets ancestry, and everything becomes one beautiful exchange.

Shining people, happy people in layers of colour, rhythm, movement and pure joy.
Including special participation of the groups @oya_batucada @batukatabatucada @community_drumming @sambasisterscollective and our regulars from Vauxhall and Hastings!

This is Dendê”s community!
One Love on the road.

From the shake of the agbé to the heartbeat of the drums… 🪇🥁✨

Our parade unfolds through the many layers that make Dendê Nation a community.

We start with our beautiful agbé section, bringing to the streets the energy built through an amazing series of sessions with @ursula.tuca.milan rhythm, movement, learning and connection coming together on Carnival day.

Then come the Dendê drummers, led by @mac_dende @paimmarivaldo and the wonderful @stella_kia_ carrying the pulse forward, alongside our incredible children and families and the guest groups who travelled and came together to make this parade bigger than any one city or community. ❤️

And then the dance sections bring their own languages to the rhythm:

✨ @hawahsambafro with her powerful AKOWMI movement section
✨ @rosariagracia and the beautiful Baianas, carrying grace, ancestry and tradition
✨ @adrianooliveiradanza bringing the strength and expression of Afro-contemporary dance

Different generations. Different groups. Different movement and musical languages, all meeting in the same parade, rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture and moving together through the streets of Notting Hill Carnival.

This is Dendê Nation. 🌿💛

FINAL REHEARSAL ❤️💛💚🥁

Today it all came together.

@reggaechoir bringing those beautiful voices, Dendê drums bringing the heartbeat, our singers, dancers, musicians, children, families, choreographers, partner groups, stewards and participants from across the UK — all sharing the same space before we take it to the streets of Notting Hill Carnival. ✨

After months of rehearsals, workshops, travelling, learning, making, singing, dancing and building together, there is something very special about finally seeing all the pieces become one.

Different cities. Different generations. Different rhythms, movements and stories. One big Dendê family. 🌿

A huge thank you to Fola Philip & Reggae Choir, Mac Preto Velho, Marivaldo Paim, all our singers & choreographers, every participating group and every single person who has given their energy to this journey.

Tomorrow we carry it onto the road. 🥁💃🏾🎶

🚨 Want to dance with @adrianooliveiradanza section at Carnival? This is your final call!🚨
Tonight, Adriano Oliveira leads a special final rehearsal dedicated to his section for Notting Hill Carnival 2026 — and our last dance session of the season before our final rehearsal where all forces align!

Adriano brings his experience as a dancer, choreographer and movement artist into a powerful Afro-contemporary practice, connecting rhythm, expression, grounded movement and the energy of the African diaspora.
This season, he has been developing a section that brings his own movement language into dialogue with Dendê Nation’s Afro-Brazilian rhythms and Carnival energy.

Tonight is the moment to learn the choreography, deepen the movement and get ready to take it all onto the streets together. 🌿🥁
📍 Pergola Brixton – Brixton Village
📅 Tonight, Monday 24 August
⏰ 7–8:30pm
🎟️ £10

This is also the final session of our beautiful season of collaboration with @brixtonbuzz . A huge thank you to Diana and the whole team for welcoming us and creating space for our community to dance, make music, connect and prepare for Carnival. ❤️

Sign up via the link in bio for both tonight’s session and Notting Hill Carnival.

See you tonight!
