Sample Blends N°14

What does FUNK gotta do with RnB & Hiphop? 🤔 Let’s check it out 👇

Starting off with the legendary funk band, B.T. Express, hitting us straight in the intro with those funky guitar sound from their record “If I Don’t Turn You On”,

which was sampled by one of the best 90’s R&B Trio - SWV on their hit record “Use Your Heart”, a beautiful string of melodic tunes alongside the powerful voices of the members Coko, Tamara & Lelee. Produced by the genius minds of The Neptunes.

While on the present day, one of the most influential rapper of our generation, Kendrick Lamar, surprised us with an album drop “GNX” which contains a record - Heart Pt. 6, that features and samples the vocals and melody of SWV’s “Use Your Heart.”

Which one is your favorite rendition of the record?
(For all I know, they’re all amazing!)
Hope you enjoyed the blend, and see you on the next one 🙌

BEHIND THE RECORDS
Bartiga Resident DJ #02 Mellowman
Some people find music through the party. Mellowman found it through the dance floor.

A next-generation Jakarta modern soul DJ, his sound runs deep through ’90s R&B, Hip-Hop, and anything soulful. Starting as a Hip-Hop and Locking dancer, he has always kept music at the center of his craft; from community sessions and battles to parties with his crew, The Friday HipHop Tribe.

Now behind the decks on every chosen Saturday, he brings that same instinct to every set: soulful, rhythmic, and made to move.
