On September 28, in partnership with @lilaschoolla Lycée International de Los Angeles, we launched the World Affairs Forum: Conversations with Experts on Global Issues—a four-part series running through the academic year.

The inaugural session opened with welcoming remarks by @conradhughes360 , Head of School at LILA, alongside @adrienfrier , @franceinla Consul General of France in Los Angeles, and Ambassador Geert Criel on behalf of Druven. Journalist Guillaume Serina then introduced the session and panelist Dr. Virgil Adumitroaie, opening the discussion on “The Global Race for Space: Cooperation vs. Militarization Beyond Orbit.”

Together, the panel dissected the evolving balance of outer space governance—from the enduring relevance of the Outer Space Treaty to the dual-use dilemmas of modern satellite technology and the growing weight of private sector actors in global decisions.

Bringing together attendees from diplomatic, academic, and business networks alongside the LILA community, the most compelling part of the session was the exchange that followed. The depth and rigor of the questions in the room showed a clear drive across generations to engage directly on the choices shaping global security and policy.

This series reflects a shared commitment to institutional responsibility: creating ongoing, high-level spaces where active decision-makers, industry leaders, and future generations examine complex global challenges together.

With this first session successfully delivered, details on the remaining sessions of the forum will be shared across both LILA and Druven channels in the coming weeks.
