I used to have a nick name… but without them, that name became too much.

Some friends jumped very willingly to my new chosen name “ADRIE” 🫶✨

They saw me… my need… the desire to be the version of me that can stand strong again. They were able to see how much power the new name had on my heart and wanted nothing more than to support this healing process. Bless these humans who met me where I was and see me for what I need.

Others… it was much harder. They could not understand giving that away. They refused to change their tongues and some even thought it was dramatic of me or that I just needed to process it a different way.

But at the end of the day, when the name is used, I just miss my parents terribly and the trigger remains very deep. Even today.

I have come to realize that lots of humans want to change their identity and name. We all have our reasons, and hope that the humans who truly love us can meet us there.

So to the ones who think that changing your name or parts of your identity is silly, dramatic, or unnecessary, please know that everyone has a story behind their name.

We all just want to be seen and heard 🫶
