meet the bookstagramer [pt.2]💘

over the last couple of weeks i’ve made new booksta friends (thank you for being here!!) so i thought i’d reintroduce myself again! 🫶🏽✨

hi, hi! 👋🏽 i’m adry, i’m 27, i’m a dominican based in florida who works in marketing (which i love). i’m also a cat+dog mom (you might see them on my stories), i love cooking, flowers, matcha & iced coffee. i’m a romantic girly at heart and i believe in romanticizing life & enjoying the little moments 💘

reading is how i recharge my soul and books are my safe space; where i go when life feels too heavy and my mind too loud. it’s where i find my muse. so i created this account to share my love for books, my recommendations and to make bookish friends <3

i read mostly thrillers/mystery, romance (classics, dark romance, romcoms —any romance if the plot seems interesting) and i’ve been getting into romantasy/fantasy (i love the world of GRRM)🏹. i’m sometimes a mood reader and a comfort reader but if i’m honest i love books so much i might even enjoy an autobiography if it seems interesting, lol. here i’ll be sharing my current reads, honest—and spoiler free—reviews, my recommendations and a little bit of life (on my stories mostly).

joining booksta has been an incredible experience. what a loving and welcoming community and i’m so glad to be part of. please know my dms are always open if you need a friend, to vent or just to talk about books 🫶🏽 that’s all about me! please know i’m so so glad you’re here!

and if you read this far, please tell me a about you in the comments! do we have things in common? 👀 ⤵️

✶ book: death row by freida mcfadden
✶ genre: psychological thriller, mystery, novella
✶ rating: 4.5/5 ⭐

✶ synopsis: talia kemper is on death row for the murder of her husband. she has an alibi. she has always maintained her innocence. no one has ever believed her. with her final appeal denied and her execution date closing in, something impossible stops her in her tracks, and the truth is far more twisted than anyone could have anticipated.

✶ [spoiler free] review: i thought i had freida mcfadden figured out by now. i don’t. i never do. death row is 74 pages and she still had me completely convinced i knew where it was going, until i didn’t. the premise grabs you immediately, the dual timeline keeps you piecing things together just fast enough to feel clever, and then she pulls the rug before you land. i read the whole thing in one sitting without pausing once. this is the kind of novella that makes you want to go back and look for what you missed. certified freida chokehold.

did the twist get you? because it absolutely got me. 👀✨

when i was a baby, my dad dedicated his first book to me. the inscription read: “to adry, who yet doesn’t read but suspects.”

he saw it before i did. the curiosity, the hunger for stories, the feeling that there was always something more waiting to be discovered on the next page.

i’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

there is nothing like getting completely lost in a good book. the way a story can pull you so deep that you forget where you are, what time it is, what’s happening around you. the way you can live a hundred different lives, travel to places that don’t exist, feel things you never expected to feel. the way you finish a book and sit there for a moment because you’re not quite ready to leave.

books taught me things no classroom ever did. they made me curious about the world, about people, about myself. every genre i’ve loved, thrillers, romance, mystery, horror, has given me something different. a rush, a feeling, a lesson, a perspective i didn’t have before.

@adryreads exists because i needed a place to put all of that. to share the books that wrecked me and the ones that healed me, to find people who understand why a story can feel like home; to vent, rant, share & learn. to create a community of readers. and if you’re one of those people, you’re in the right place. let’s be friends 💌

✶ book: ward d by freida mcfadden
✶ genre: psychological thriller, suspense
✶ rating: 4/5 ⭐

✶ synopsis:
medical student amy brenner is spending the night on ward d, the hospital’s locked psychiatric unit. she’s been dreading this rotation for reasons nobody can ever find out. but as the hours pass, patients and staff start to vanish, and amy realizes that surviving the night might be harder than she ever imagined.

✶ [spoiler free] review:
freida mcfadden is the thriller queen for a reason. ward d had me locked in from page one. a locked psych unit, one night, a protagonist running out of people to trust. the atmosphere alone is worth it.

i will say the main plot twist wasn’t what i was expecting, and i sat with that for a minute. i had a different direction in my head and when it didn’t go there, i felt a little let down. but the ending? the ending saved it completely. freida knows how to close a book and that final stretch brought me all the way back.

not her most shocking twist but one of her better endings. and for that, i’m still very much here for whatever she writes next.
have you read ward d? did the twist get you? 👀✨

📓 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸: ‘the housemaid’ by freida mcfadden
💡 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞: psychological thriller, suspense
✨ 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 3/5

••• 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
millie is desperate for a fresh start when she lands a live-in housekeeping job for the wealthy and seemingly perfect winchester family. at first, the job seems too good to be true—a beautiful house, a generous salary, and a chance to turn her life around. but as she settles in, things start to feel… off. the tension in the house is undeniable, and soon, millie realizes she may have walked into something far more dangerous than she ever expected.

••• 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫-𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:
this book was everywhere, and i was so excited to finally read it. but honestly? i think the hype set my expectations too high. the premise was intriguing, and the pacing kept me turning pages, but i found the twists a bit predictable, and some moments felt exaggerated.

that being said, it’s still a solid thriller—fast, engaging, and full of tension. if you go in expecting a quick, entertaining read rather than a groundbreaking thriller, you’ll probably enjoy it more than i did. i just wanted something more. 😕

••• 𝐭𝐰’𝐬:
psychological abuse, gaslighting, confinement.

how about you besties? have you read the housemaid? did it live up to the hype for you? 👀🔪

where my lore started 💞🫧🎞️📖☁️

where it all began… saw this trend and i had to jump in! as a hopeless romantic and a lover girl, my lore started with books, especially with ‘pride & prejudice’ (my favorite book of all time) but there are so many romance films that shaped my taste and i could say they have become my favorites.

🫧 here are some of them:

~ elizabeth & mr darcy, ‘pride & prejudice’ (photo 2 & 3)
~ allie & noah, ‘the notebook’
~ kat & patrick, ’10 things i hate about you’
~ pam & jim, ‘the office’
~ belle & beast, ‘beauty & the beast’
~ lou & will, ‘me before you’
~ andie & ben, ‘how to lose a guy in 10 days’
~ bella & edward, ‘twilight’
~ lindy & kyle, ‘beastly’
~ sam & austin, ‘a cinderella story’

all of them share one thing in common: real love & real devotion above all else and definitely speaks to my heart. 💘

~ like C.S. Lewis once said:
‘‘𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙫𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚.’’

how about you besties, where did your lore started? 👀✨

📓 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤: ‘do you think i cried too long?’ by elaine kelliher (@authorelainekelliher)
🕯️ 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞: historical fiction, family drama
✨ 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 4.5/5 ⭐️

〰️ 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
set in 1950s rural america, this story follows a young girl, lily, as she navigates loss, change, and the complexities of family. when her life takes an unexpected turn, lily embarks on a journey of resilience and self-discovery, uncovering hidden truths and finding strength in the face of hardship.

💡 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫-𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:
elaine kelliher’s do you think i cried too long? is a poignant exploration of grief, family dynamics, and the search for answers. through lily’s perceptive eyes, we’re drawn into a deeply emotional story that captures the heartache of change and the resilience of the human spirit.

kelliher masterfully portrays 1950s rural america, creating a vivid backdrop that enhances the depth of the narrative. the characters are richly developed, each adding their own layer of complexity to lily’s journey. the mystery at the heart of the story keeps you turning pages, while the emotional depth lingers long after you’ve finished.

this is more than a tale of grief—it’s a story about strength, love, and the courage to face the past. kelliher’s writing is evocative and beautifully captures both the heartbreak and the hope of lily’s journey.

••trigger warnings:
themes of loss, familial separation, and trauma.

if you’re looking for a heartfelt and thought-provoking read that weaves mystery with emotional depth, do you think i cried too long? should be on your list. let me know if it’s already on your radar! 👀✨

also, a big thank you to @authorelainekelliher for sending me a copy of this lovely book 🤌🏽✨

〰️ 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤: the boyfriend
〰️ 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞: psychological thriller
〰️ 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 5/5 ⭐️

let me start by saying that i read this book in like 4 hours because i couldn’t put it down. plot twists after plot twists… surreal 🤯

〰️ 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
sydney thinks she’s found the perfect boyfriend—he’s charming, attentive, and everything she’s ever wanted in a partner. but as their relationship progresses, strange things begin to happen. secrets come to light, and sydney starts to question everything she thought she knew. as the tension rises, the story builds toward an ending that will leave you absolutely stunned.

〰️ [𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞] 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:
this book was a rollercoaster from start to finish, and i mean that in the best way possible. freida mcfadden delivers yet another thriller that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until the very last page. sydney is a relatable protagonist—her emotions, her doubts, and her growing paranoia felt so real. the writing is fast-paced, making it almost impossible to put down, and every chapter ends on a note that practically demands you keep reading.

freida has a knack for flipping the narrative in ways you won’t see coming. the twist in this book left me speechless. i pride myself on being good at predicting endings, but this one? completely blindsided me, and i loved every second of it. 🤌🏽✨

this book isn’t just a thriller—it’s an experience. you’ll find yourself questioning the people around you and wondering if you truly know anyone. if you’re a fan of unpredictable endings and suspense that keeps you on edge, the boyfriend is a must-read. and it’s on KU! 🙌🏽

have you read the boyfriend by freida mcfadden yet? if not, i highly recommend diving into this mind-bending thriller. let’s chat about it—spoiler-free, of course! 👀🔪
