These days, I love almost every surf photo and am thankful for every surf. The search for uncrowded, new waves in really remote areas has become an obsession again . I went through the phase of checking the bucket list spots “that every surfer must surf”. I am finding that even though the waves may not always be “world class” surfing surrounded by only nature and maybe a couple other surfers is really special . After a lifetime in the water, you learn to love it all. The hunt for more moments, movement, and memories. The goofy rides, the clean lines, the makes, the wipeouts. What’s Our favorite Hilton Head summer recipe? It’s simple : •Find the biggest schools of menhaden in the clearest, skinniest water you can. •Stay in stealth mode 🥷, •Noise down, •make casts on outside of school first .•Then hang on… Because somewhere nearby there’s usually a bull red, a blacktip, a tarpon, or a jack waiting for dinner. Nature already wrote the recipe—we just get lucky enough to witness it. 🌊🐟. The first photo was taken 25 years ago.We’ve come a long way since then.Back then, lifting a giant tarpon into the boat for a quick photo was common practice. Today, we know better. Now we keep these amazing Tarpon in the water at all times . It’s so important for the fish and gives them the best chance to swim away healthy.Like everyone, we’ve learned as we’ve grown—both as people and as a business. Some of our biggest lessons came from watching the incredible cobia fishery we once had change over the years. Those experiences reminded us that healthy fisheries are never guaranteed but can make a comeback .We’re grateful to see more anglers becoming true stewards of our waters. A Day with a Native and some great friends! 🌊🦈What a fun day! We started off hunting for giant fossil shark teeth on the Savannah River, then headed over to Daufuskie Island for lunch and a golf cart adventure exploring one of the Lowcountry’s most unique islands. To top it all off, we even found a Civil War-era bottle! This is why I still pinch myself.One of my favorite parts of working at Native Son Adventures is taking our up-and-coming captains exploring. We’re always searching for new waves, hidden islands, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.This day, Capt. Hannah—our Surf Camp Manager and Tiki Boat Captain—was surfing a little secret island south of Hilton Head when a pod of bottlenose dolphins showed up, working a school of mullet just yards from her board.She came in absolutely glowing. After casting for monsters on some untouched points, we headed back in. Pro Fish /Surf Tip of the Day 🌊One of the best ways to figure out a beach is to go look at it at dead low tide.Here in Panama, we get almost an 11-foot tide, so when the water falls out, it shows you everything—the sandbars, troughs, holes and cuts.That bar I’m pointing at is where the waves are going to start breaking when the tide comes back in. You can also see which direction they’ll peel and where the better surf should be.Same thing with fishing. Those deeper troughs, holes and cuts are where bait and fish will move once the water fills back in.This is a technique you can use almost anywhere in the world that has a decent tidal swing. Whether you’re looking for better waves or trying to find where fish will feed, low tide is one of the best teachers you’ll ever have.Low tide gives away all the secrets.Go look before you surf it. Not every memorable fish is the biggest.This heat brings back this hot memory and was one of my favorite bites ever . The color of this fish , the setting, and the way it absolutely detonated the bait… I’ll never forget it.Most people have no idea these giant, landlocked bull reds live right here on Hilton Head. For more than 55 years they’ve roamed the second-longest man-made saltwater lagoon system in the United States, located in @palmettodunessc this is one of the most unique fisheries anywhere.My best friend and I have been chasing these fish since we were kids in the lagoon . These days, he guides these waters and inshore full time.
