If you had told me 5 years ago that I’d be:

-writing and directing movies
-getting to act in some of the coolest projects
-and teaching at my own acting studio

…I never would’ve believed you. Never.

Often times we can feel like we are grappling our way through life wondering what our purpose is, being tempted into feeling ā€˜behind’, or like we are ā€˜failing’. But foundations have to be built for castles to stand upon, and the firming of the foundations can take a long time…longer than we’d like.
I had a timeline.
Married out of college, done having kids by 30, becoming an established actor somewhere in there…
At 30 I was single, childless, working an $11/hr job and living with 4 roommates. I was also relatively fresh off of moving back from LA-where I thought my wildest dreams just might work out.
They didn’t.
And though great stuff happened while I was there-I didn’t make it big…and that’s okay.
Fast forward.
After years on hiatus I returned to acting, and, yes, feeling ā€˜behind’. I wasn’t in my twenties anymore. Nevertheless, I dove head first back into training, much more intense than ever. I learned, grew, and took scary risks like signing up to perform a scene in front of @fincannonmark, one of the most well known, respected casting directors on the east coast. That opportunity deeply, and profoundly impacted me.
I didn’t give up even though I was way outside of my timeline.
Things happened.
The handwork began paying off. In 2023 I booked 14 projects across film, commercial and voiceover. This was also the same year I accidentally started @theclassactingstudios, but that’s a story for another day.
Now, on the precipice of 2026, I’m married, still praying for children, writing my first feature film, submitting to a wonderful talent agency recommended by none other than Mark Fincannon, am slated to direct multiple projects, my studio is releasing our first feature film and I’m getting to sow into the lives of some pretty amazing actors at the studio.
The timeline?
Well, it’s not mine after all, is it?

See you in 2026, Lord willingšŸ¤

{ 7 Years }

And what a beautiful 7 years it has been.
This anniversary feels different than those that came before.
It feels almost as if we’ve found ourselves at the top of a hill and get to enjoy the view for a while.
Marriage teaches you a lot of things.
It reveals things about yourself you didn’t know were there, it shows you where your ropes run too short, it builds strength and endurance, it heals.
I’ve never been with anyone as long as I’ve been with Jason, but this year, our 7th year, I’ve seen how enduring love is a firm foundation.
I was broken, in many ways, when I unexpectedly met Jason in April of 2018. On the outside there were lots of smiles, but inwardly I carried very deep set pain. Jason’s love for me, over time, has helped to heal so much of that brokenness.
You see, when you’re married…they eventually see all of you, even the parts you wish no one would see…
Jason has seen all of the things I would consider ’ugly’ and he has stayed. He has loved me through all of the mess. He has sat with me in all of my brokenness and loved me, not because he was obligated, but because he chose to.
There’s something about unconditional love that heals the very broken heart.
My lovely, wonderful, imperfect, steadfast husband stayed. He stayed through it all and, 7 years later, my heart feels the rest that comes with being loved unconditionally.
I love you, Jason.
Thank you for always choosing me and teaching me what love really looks likešŸ¤
Happy 7th Wedding Anniversary.
I’m glad to be found on this hilltop with you. by @adventureshelby
