Does it feel overwhelming and impossible when you see people talking all about traveling with points and miles and flying in business class and talking about a “SUB” and you’re like WHAT?!? 😵‍💫

Yeah, I’ve been there.

In fact, I think I started and then stopped multiple times because it was information overload.

And then honestly I was just kind of annoyed with the travel I saw that didn’t apply to my family.

If you can relate, then I’m glad you found my page and hope you follow along as I show you there are normal families using points and miles to travel the world.🌎 taken in Dallas, Texas, USA by @adventuringpartyof4

Turns out, the Belizean jungle wasn’t the problem. My son was just HANGRY. 😂

We had planned to hike with an expert from Panthera and hopefully see some wildlife, but after a full-blown kid meltdown, it became very clear that it wasn’t safe for my son to go on the hike. So my husband and daughter went ahead, and I stayed back with him.

And then we found a tiny little visitor’s center.

And that tiny little visitor’s center had Pringles.

And suddenly, the meltdown made a whole lot more sense. 😂

He ate his Pringles, quickly came back to life, and apparently discovered his true love somewhere in the Belizean jungle (and he’s loved Pringles ever since)!

And this is why I will forever tell parents to pack snacks. Then pack more snacks. Then probably put a snack in your backup bag just in case.

Because sometimes the difference between “we are having a family adventure!” and “we might all end in tears” is apparently a can of Pringles. 😜

It started at dinner. Then became something for the drive home from school. Sometimes it happens during conversations with others. Or while walking to the bathroom to brush our teeth.

We talk about the trip. We ask questions. It’s as simple as that.

BUT we get SPECIFIC ➡️

✨ what did you love most about that boat ride?

✨ did anything make you feel special?

✨ what surprised you on the canyon drive?

✨ which animal encounter was most unlike the zoo?

✨ what was your favorite dessert?

It’s a simple habit. An easy habit. But one that’s totally doable for any family.

And it reinforces those family travel memories 😍

The trick is to not just ask one question and be done…but keep asking the questions. Make it a daily habit.

Now our kids bring up trips from years ago, remember tiny details, and connect experiences in a way they never did before.

If you travel with kids, this is your reminder:

➡️ the trip doesn’t end when you get home.

What’s something your kids still talk about from a past trip? I’d love to hear 👇🏻

Which one can you relate to the most? Or is it all? 👇🏻

I’ve realized there’s no such thing as ✨perfect✨in this hobby and that’s ok! If I tried to do ALL the tricks to earn more points and miles, I might drive myself crazy and my family definitely doesn’t want that.🤪

With a full-time job, two kids and pets, and sports galore, we are in a season of “doing the best we can” and embracing it.

Do I wish I was more on top of booking trips or checking which card to use? Of course, but sometimes you just can’t worry about those things.

And that is 100% normal!

So if you can relate, then join along on our journey as I show how a real working family with kids, who like to be involved in everything, still makes time to use credit card points to travel the world.🌎 taken in Dallas, Texas by @adventuringpartyof4

We’re a tad picky about what earns space in our luggage when we fly with only carry-ons, so over the years I’ve narrowed down what we ✨actually✨need!

SKIP ➡️

❌ toys and books: maybe they get one small stuffed animal but do you really want to lug a whole bag of stuff around? There are less bulky ways to entertain kiddos!

❌ thick blankets and pillows: thin blankets and layers are the way to go but also the airline does provide a blanket/pillow for each person

❌ shoes that tie: you know what’s not fun? When you child all of a sudden REALLY has to go to the bathroom on the plane & you’re now having to untie and put their shoes on with limited space and turbulence (slip on shoes are the way to go!)

What actually earns space in my carry-on now ➡️

✔️ headphones + pre-downloaded shows (will save you when the seat back screen doesn’t work 🫣)

✔️ extra outfits for everyone (learned this the hard way)

✔️ healthy-ish snacks + refillable water bottles

✔️ deck of cards: great for kids learning numbers, math, you name it! (also doubles as entertainment when eating out)

✔️ patience… or at least the illusion of it 😅

Traveling with kids still isn’t always easy, but every trip teaches us what’s actually worth packing. And every trip builds their travel skills and confidence. Mamas, if you’re on the travel struggle bus, I promise it gets easier!

What’s ONE thing you never board a flight without when traveling with kids? 👇🏻

It’s hard for me to imagine that there’s a generation who now doesn’t remember where they were that day, 25 years ago. But I’ll never forget.

We’ll tell our children the stories. We share with them the heartbreak, and the bravery.

And the shared memories and emotions we have of that day and the days that followed will likely never be replicated.

So every year let us take the time to remember and reflect and never, ever forget. 🇺🇸 taken in Dallas, Texas by @adventuringpartyof4

Well a little something you might not know about me: my senior paper in college was all about Gloria Steinem, @ms_magazine and the women’s movement.

My mom was hired in the airline industry as only a TEEN (yes, you read that right) and growing up I heard story after story of the struggles she faced as a young, single woman.

And so began my effort to learn more about the work of the women’s movement… inspired to help chart a course that empowers women to this day.

So today hurts. RIP Gloria. Your work paved the way for generations of women.

Every. Single. Weekend. From September through November, our fall is booked with soccer and half the time we don’t even know the schedule until the Tuesday before. 😅⚽ (can you relate??? 🙋🏻‍♀️)

So we stopped trying to plan around long weekends and started planning around the gaps.

Here’s what’s actually helping us this season 👇🏻

📍 We scout trips that fit inside whatever time is left whether it’s the weekend before Thanksgiving, the two weekends before the next season starts or taking advantage of last-minute game cancellations.

✈️ Flexible award flights (& especially NO change fees) mean we can book late without stressing about it OR book waaaaay early before the season even starts…just in case.

🚗 We lean on our Dallas home base because there are so many destination options with two major airport options! This is one of the benefits of living right smack in the middle of the country. Comment FLY for our favorite way to find flights!

Sports season doesn’t have to mean the end of travel for your family. It just means traveling differently.

Save this for the next time your kid’s schedule wrecks your plans 🙌🏻 Follow for more Dallas family travel + points & miles tips. taken in Dallas, Texas by @adventuringpartyof4

A little part of our story. A little part of our journey. But a journey I feel that many other families can probably relate to.

We all lost something or someone in those years.

Our work now is to try and find those missing pieces and slowly weave them back together.

Traveling with my family is healing in so many ways. Watching my kids experience things for the first time, or hear a new language or taste a new food…this is what it’s about.

Share if you’ve experienced this too 🥰 taken in Dallas, Texas by @adventuringpartyof4
