Looking to visit an underrated national park this summer? I’ve got you covered👇

📍Cuyahoga Valley National Park - Ohio

🚗 Located roughly 6.5 hrs from Philly and around a 2 hour drive from Pittsburgh this national park makes for a great long weekend trip. Whether it’s hiking, biking or birding this park offers something for everyone!

🏕️ While camping is not permitted in the park. My husband and I camped at Streetsboro/Cleveland KOA. It was only about a 20 minute drive away. If camping isn’t your thing this campground also offers other options like cabins and glamping tent rentals.

🥾 There are over 125 trails located within CVNP! Some of my favorites were The Ledges Trail, Brandywine Gorge Loop, Beaver Marsh, and Blue Hen Falls.

🚲 Something I would like to do next time I revisit is bike along the Ohio & Erie Towpath which runs 20 miles north and south of the park.

🚂 Riding on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is another unique way to enjoy this park. I didn’t have time to fit this in when I visited, but I definitely want to next time!

🐾 One of my favorite things about this park is that it’s super dog friendly! Just be sure to follow the rules and keep your dogs on a leash at all times. There are over 100 miles worth of trails dogs are allowed on in this park.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when visiting because I had seen this national park is rated as one of the “worst” ones to visit. Just like all of our other national parks there is a lot of history when it comes to this one as well. I really enjoyed learning and seeing how this area has changed since becoming a national park and I would definitely revisit again!

Have you visited Cuyahoga Valley National Park yet?

Please remember to stay on the trail and Leave No Trace while spending time outdoors!

Welcome to one of my favorite parts of the internet… bookstagram✨📚

While this is primarily a hiking account reading is also a very big part of my life.

I share a lot of my reads on my stories and they always get lots of interactions so I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite books I’ve read about the outdoors.

My taste in genres has evolved over the past few years. I love a little bit of everything. Historical fiction, thrillers, a little bit of romantasy (aka ACOTAR 🤭) the list goes on but one thing remains, the books that sparked my love of reading as an adult are ones about the outdoors.

I hope this post inspires you to start a new hobby, pick up a book and put down your phone. Reading is essential. Reading is for everyone. 📚🫶

Looking for a challenging trail with some incredible views? Look no further👇

📍Allegheny Front Trail - Centre County, PA

While the entire Allegheny Front Trail is roughly 42 miles long. I opted to hike a shorter 6 mile loop while I was in the area. This challenging trail offers a little bit of everything, steep rocky terrain, grassy flat sections, a gravel road portion and 3 incredible overlooks! (The first overlook is not marked but roughly 1 mile along the start of the trail)

🥾 Allegheny Front to Underwood Road to Stage Coach Trail - @alltrails
Moderate 6.2 mile Loop
1,100 ft elevation gain

Want to view 2 vistas and only a 1.6 mile out and back? @uncoveringpa has a great post on his website for a shorter option!

I feel like the consensus is Ralph’s Pretty Good View is favored over Ralph’s Majestic Vista.

Always remember to stay on the trail, pack out what you pack in and leave no trace while spending time outdoors!

📌 Save this post for the perfect PA summer weekend! ☀️

📍Presque Isle + Erie Bluffs State Parks - Erie, PA

🏕️ We camped at Erie KOA which was only a 20 minutes away from both parks. @kampgroundsofamerica

🌊 Presque Isle State Park -

Enjoy Pennsylvania’s only “seashore”

Visit the The Tom Ridge Environmental Center

Bike over 13 miles trails

Hike 11 miles of trails (I really enjoyed the Gull Point Trail)

There four launching areas are available and a marina which can accommodate various sizes of boats.

Visit the Presque Isle Lighthouse

View a sunset at Sunset Point

🥾 Erie Bluffs State Park -

Hike over 5 miles worth of intersecting trails

Picnicking and wildlife watching are popular activities enjoyed at this state park. There is a variety of wildlife including Bald Eagles and Red Spotted Newts.

While swimming is prohibited at this park fishing and boating are encouraged. Elk Creek Access offers a boat launch suitable for small boats, kayaks and canoes.

I visited Erie last year over Labor Day weekend. While I loved the beaches and beautiful lake views at Presque Isle I also enjoyed the incredible bluffs and hiking trails at Erie Bluffs. I think this trip would be great for anyone who like me, wants the best of both worlds (a beach trip + hiking) Also, I love that Presque Isle is super dog friendly! Just be sure to check which beaches allow dogs and be sure to stop at Sara’s for a shake it’s a must!! 🍦

Are these Erie state parks on your summer itinerary?

We spent Saturday morning with almost 100 other participants at Climb Pocono to End Cancer! @climbpocono2endcancer

We started at @camelbackresortpa and climbed 3 miles to the summit of Big Pocono State Park to raise awareness and honor those who have been affected by cancer.

While the steep climb to the top is tough this event is a great way to remind us of the challenges and battles individuals with cancer fight everyday. ❤️

I met my friend @adventuringwithmaria for a hike at Nescopeck State Park in Luzerne County in NEPA.

We are both working on the See Them All Challenge by @paparksandforests so a state park neither of us had visited yet seemed like the perfect meet up spot.

Nescopeck State Park has:
🥾19 miles of hiking trails
🍃Environmental Education Center
🎣Trout fishing in Nescopeck Creek
🛶kayaking
🦅birdwatching
***Note Lake Francis is currently drained.

We hiked 2 different loops:
🥾Woodland Way and Red Rock Trail Loop, 1.8 mi, easy
🥾Farmstead Trail and Lupine Loop, 2.3 mi, easy
Both loops can be found in @alltrails

🌎Please make sure to Leave No Trace while exploring the outdoors. Let’s keep these places beautiful for ALL to enjoy. 😊

📍 @happyvalleypa

🥾 Mt. Nittany Trail:
Blue Loop - 4.8 (I hiked this one)
White Loop - 3.7

🅿️ There is a small parking area at the start of the trail and overflow parking located right down the street just follow the signs.

I’ve wanted to hike this trail for a while so when I was in the area for the @hemlockstohellbenders meetup I knew I had to cross this one off my list! Thanks @coach_trish for joining me!

❗️Please remember to stay on the trail and Leave No Trace while spending time outdoors.

Are you adding Mount Nittany to your list?

#AD After visiting 80+ Pennsylvania state parks, I’ve found some of the easiest ways to get around and the @pa_turnpike has been a big part of that.

With E-ZPass, you can save time on road trips, especially when you’re heading somewhere like Cowans Gap State Park for a quick weekend getaway.

Cowans Gap State Park highlights:

🏕️ 2 campgrounds and 10 rustic cabins for lodging

🏖️42 acre Cowans Gap Lake for boating and a seasonal beach

🥾13 miles of trails suitable for all hikers. If you’re looking for something easy I enjoyed the 1.5 mile Lakeside Trail. If you’re looking for something more challenging I recommend the 3.6 mile Tuscarora, Horseshoe and Standing Stone Trail Loop.

There are so many parks you can easily reach off the PA Turnpike too, like Shawnee State Park and French Creek State Park.

If you’re planning a Pennsylvania road trip this year, E-ZPass makes getting there that much easier!
