What does restorative justice look like?

Restorative justice is more than an alternative approach to addressing harm—it's a process that brings people together to foster accountability, understanding, and healing. Research has shown that restorative justice can increase participant satisfaction, encourage meaningful accountability, and provide a space for open communication and healing.

At Advoz, we believe that when people are given the opportunity to listen, be heard, and work toward repairing harm, stronger individuals and healthier communities can emerge.

✨ Swipe through to learn three key benefits of restorative justice.

We’ve seen the immense power of restoration when conflict is transformed into conversation. 🧡

For decades, Advoz has provided affordable services for resolving conflict, repairing harm, and training people to transform conflict into conversation in and beyond Lancaster through restorative justice practices, mediation, education, and training. We need your support to continue this mission. If you are compelled to support our mission, we invite you to contribute financially to Advoz before the end of the year.

Beth taught music in local schools for 34 years. In April 2023, she was assaulted by a student who burst into her classroom with the intent to harm another student. The incident sparked PTSD, anxiety, and depression in Beth as she tried to wrap her head and heart around what she experienced.

Beth and the student were both asked to be part of Advoz’s Harmed-Offender Conferencing, a restorative justice practice that addresses harm caused by crime through face-to-face dialogue. It’s an opportunity for an offender and a person who was impacted by a specific crime to come together for a conversation, exploring what it could look like to restore peace. Beth hoped for closure. The student hoped to apologize and reach a resolution.

“It was like nothing I had ever experienced,” Beth shared. “We got to sit and talk and listen to one another. I heard her story and it broke my heart.”
